Yeah, I can see the look does have some charm, especially to people who played the 2600. I wasn't born around that time, so I don't really know gaming then was like. I got my start on the NES.

Googled Atari 2600 games.... found this:

Its too dated for me.... I couldnt myself sit down and enjoy a game that looked like this anymore.

Graphics and gameplay look too simple.

The graphics look on that racer look pretty bad, but the other ones seem alright. Maybe there are some games on the Atari that are still fun today, haha.

Atari Vault on Steam has a bunch of Atari Classics on it for those who want to try out some classics.
They haven't mentioned much on this system yet. I am sure when they announce more info on the specs and games it will be a bigger topic.
This sounds more like a collectors item then a mainstream platform.

If you want to get technical about it, they actually didn't. What we recognize as today's Atari is actually a company that has been around only since 1993. They just happened to buy the name and rights to the assets that was once owned by the Atari Corporation, which itself wasn't even the original Atari.

So in truth, we are seeing yet another console with the Atari name and brand that is being made a completely different company, which is also named Atari.

Seems like central focus is emulator of old school games ala NES Classic... whoop de fucking doo...
It does seem plausible they could include Atari ST computer games as well, of higher quality etc.

I guess you can hack the shit out of that box to make it a decent emulator box for your TV.

Then again, you could just wait for the Switch to get hacked.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

They have not re-entered the console market. At this point, they're just talking about it.

From my reading of the statement, it seems that the proposed hardware is in the early stages of development. I don't think we're actually going to see an Atari system with anything approaching current-gen power. I'm going to be (I think) the first on VGC to call this vaporware.

Looks like an Atari 2600 with a HDMI.

This used to be a novel thing, but now you can use just about anything for that purpose really. It ain't gonna save this thing.
