People seem to forget that Sonys keeps their consoles selling for ten years

Luckily my signature should spread awareness of this issue.

Luckily Sony sells the true record setting numbers within the six to seven years of their lifecycle. Anything else is just extra. As you know, with time the numbers fall from their peak and Sony is usually cuts the price down to the lowest point from there. Once the platform hits $200 it's as good as over.

" People seem to forget" .. tell me what happened to the ps3 again.. did that reach 100m?.. its even made it to 11 years lmao =)

The 360 halved the market the PS2 expanded. The majority of the 360 gamers came from the original PS2. Don't you find it funny how Microsoft and Sony both sold around 160-170 million consoles combined? The only company that had expanded the gaming market that large outside of a Nintendo platform was Sony.

PS3's problem was price from launch to this day. Right now a new PS3 is more expensive than PS4.

PS4 will be selling for $200 this holiday, next holiday it'll be at $150, by the time PS4 get's announced and releases PS4 will be selling for under a $100.

Kinda off topic but I don't see the ps4 making it to 2020. I feel like it's going to continue to sell super well and more likely than not pass the ps3's sales but I think a ps5 in 2019 or 2020 will kill the ps4 especially if it launches at $400 and is backwards compatible

Even the PS3 reached 10 years on the market and was only very recently discontinued from production.

PS4 will likely stay at least 10 years on the market as well and 100 million is the absolute minimum amount of units it will sell in total. Likely to be more than that though.

I'm going to sound too bold but seeing how PS4 has sold over 7 million in the first 5 months this year compared to around 5 million last year in the same timeframe, here goes:

2017- 21 million (Probably more, it should get to 20 million even if it sells only as much as it did last year for the rest of the year, which is unlikely considering Gran Turismo is on the way this holiday. Should be around 74-75 million by the end of the year)
2018- 22 million (This will be it's peak year, we have God of War, Days Gone, Detroit and Spiderman coming. Along with Red Dead Redemption 2. Spiderman and RDR2 will sell a lot of PS4s even to people who normally wouldn't be looking at a Playstation. Should be around 95 million by the end of 2018)
2019- 15 million (Should start dropping in 2019, still big games coming though like Last of Us 2, Death Stranding and likely FFVII Remake and Suckerpunch's game so shouldn't drop too hard. Should be around 110 million by the end of 2019)
2020- This is a tricky one, will depend on whether PS5 releases at the end of 2019 or 2020. If 2019 then sales should see a steeper decline to around 5 million, if PS5 comes in 2020 then it should sustain well and sell another 10 million.

Overall I think it should cross 130 million quite easily.

Cant believe what Im reading here.. you guys really expecting it to get close to 100m in its life time?.. lol

Sure am. And this will be fun to revisit just like GT5 and Heavy Rain predictions were.

Found His comment in my old bookmarks, this was funny.

2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Honestly with how Sony is winding down PS4 hardware so much, 2021 could be the final year PS4 sells over a million units. It will probably manage a few million by the time this year is over. And then probably about half a million to three-quarters of a million in 2022. Then really low after that.

It looks like PS4 will outsell Game Boy+Game Boy Color, but not near as easily as we thought. Until about nine or so months ago, it seemed like the PS4 could reach 125-130 million lifetime sales.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 156 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 48 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

It's already cleared 115m (and should settle around 125m, give or take - which is within range of the most logical predictions). Doesn't have to do more, particularly when its predecessor is breaking all of its early records as it is.

Not sure about the 10m (approx) to reach 125m with it clocking in around 40k on a good week nowadays. Still before the PS5's release and Sony demonstrating that (unlike PS4 software) it was no longer interested in PS4 hardware by cutting back production and no price cuts, I would have said it was a deadset certainty and that 125m was the baseline, anyway a base figure around 120m is still great considering Sony's lack of end gen support is most likely going to be the difference between the 130-145m lifetime predictions and where it ends up. also with a lot of people seeing Sony's end of gen history as a positive factor that was something most didn't predict.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Yeah, it will barely pass the Game Boy/Game Boy Color in sales but if it would have gotten the massive price cuts towards the end that the guy that started the tread mentioned it easily would have reached at least 125 million in total sales.

How can you guys necrobump so many threads?
