Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Maybe Nintendo Having Just 1 Mario Kart Title [MK8 Deluxe] for Switch is a Good Thing?

What i mean by this is switch not having a Mario Kart 9. First off before anyone screams at me lol i want a Mario Kart 9, thing is i dont see one in the near future (basically before 2020) especially if mk8d does well which it will.

That said why not having another mario kart game during switchs life good? Because the focus on other racers in the latter years could come into play. Mk8d will always been an evergreen title and with mk9 it would overshadow other racing games for switch.

Im talking about...

F Zero Switch

Diddy Kong Racing 2

New Racing IP (in the Vain of Arms/Splatoon)

We usually get 2 mk per gen but with mario kart deluxe a port and one that actually does change the game and add the infamous battle mode, devs can be free to make other games... Including racing genre games such as the above!

Thoughts?

I can see something like...

2018 F Zero

2020 New IP racing

2021 Diddy kong racing 2

(Anf other smaller titles)

MK8D's "system-seller" powers are no different than any other MK. So yes, no need for MK9 anytime soon.

Well ever since 2005 we've gotten a Mario Kart game in some form every 3 years

Mario Kart DS - 2005
Mario Kart Wii - 2008
Mario Kart 7 - 2011
Mario Kart 8 - 2014
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe -2017

So I could see a 'Mario Kart 9' sometime in 2020

Yeah I really think this will be the mario kart for the switch and they won't bother making another one. Wii U owners might not be happy about it, but good business for Nintendo. On Wii U it an absolutely insane over 50% attach rate and it'll no doubt sell even more on the Switch, and all they had to do was port it over and add a few features. But as someone who doesn't have a Wii U, this will be a new game for me, and for most people, when I get a Switch.

A MK9 on the Switch would only server to kill off MK8D sales and with one MK already on the Switch I don't think an MK9 would have the normal huge sales effect that mario kart games have. And yeah besides they need to make an F-zero game for Switch, a new Wave Race game would be cool too, but other than that I'd like to just see third party racing game support. A mario kart maker would be cool though haha

The only thing I'll maybe want is another dlc round for mk8 delux.

I think there will be another one. This is a stop-gap that will help move systems and make a load of extra money in the meantime.

It wouldn't surprise me if they are struggling more than usual on finding a new hook for MK9. It wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't one. But there needs to be a new MK for me, with lots of new tracks or I at least will be disappointed.

MK9 on switch is a given.

Only question is when.

I don't think they will release a mk9 this gen, that would pretty much split the online userbase, it would be better to fochs on another racing game instead like f-zero.

I'll never understand the whole "less is more" mentality I've seen recently. I'd prefer a new MK over the same damn game from 2014. The excuse is "not a lot of people played it" -bullshit. It sold better than most Wii U games.

Yeah, would love a new IP in the vein of Splatoon meets Jet Set Radio, meets Diddy Kong Racing.

They can keep updating Mario Karts 8's content in yearly DLC and save MK9 for Switch 2's launch window.
