Nintendo needs to get back on track, to keep Sony and MS on their toes. They're both slipping into low-risk mode. That sucks for gamers.

I suppose if you merely go by LTD hardware sales he might be right. But I find it very difficult to see a path from where sales are now to the >85 million that 360 achieved.

The 360 is only 2 million behind on a more or less launch aligned sales, and 360's best selling years have still not happened in that launch aligned comparison.

Market Share: not the best gen so far

Sales in places other than the USA and UK: not the best generation. And esp sales in Japan doing worst of all, way worse than Xb og.

Profits? Possible the most profitable (or lowest losses?) of the 3 generations so far. Xb og was a financial loser for the entire generation, and I believe 360 only became profitable at about the halfway mark. If Xb one is profitable already then I guess by the only metric that matters to shareholders and the board its the best gen yet. Modest and stable long term player base + profits = success.

Loving the comments. Some gamers really have no clue what a success is. Most Successful doesn't mean you have to be number 1 in sales. People take twitter responses way too seriously with no knowledge of the industry. Ever thought his talking on the financial department of Xbox? Or it outpacing its predecessor? Or selling alot more Software? Or gaining alot more subscribers? There are plenty of things that his comment can mean. Not just "it was outsold by PS4, its a failure." Logic.
Not going to lie here. I game primary on my PC and own both a 360 and X1. I have used my X1 more than my 360. Strange.

I just love it when some of you use sales as a talking point.

Xbox 360 wasn't selling all that great, even in 2007 when it had a shitload of exclusives like Mass Effect, BioShock, Halo 3 and more. it didn't really take off until the cheap Slim and Kinect in 2010.

Not to mention, the XBOX wasn't a strong brand when the 360 launched, unlike the X1 that benefited from a strong fan-base that the 360 built. If we are talking numbers, the X1 is disappointing no matter how you spin it, for the following one simple reason: it could've done much better.

2017 is the equivalent for 2010 for Xbox360, this year Xbone will fall behind badly and will remain there forever.

It's not the best generation imo. That would be the first Xbox. It was a beast that offered something the other two just couldn't do back then. It was fresh, new and exciting.

On a side note, you have to lol at the kid for saying Horizon is awesome because you don't shoot things with guns and instead, shoot things with a bow.

Humanity... gotta love it.

Well, he's right, isn't he? Xbox One is selling faster than the 360 did during its first years on the market. People act as if Microsoft was closer to being the market leader last gen but they weren't - the Wii sold a lot faster than the PS4 is selling now and Microsoft took huge losses to push the 360 into the market. This is a decent generation for them.

We already know XBO is selling better than X360, that Live has record engagement and they are selling games message just fine. They lost the lock on the CoD Bro gamer with the shift of content exclusivity and Destiny early, so they won't get that back at this point.

There is no comparison to the Magic of last gen though.... Oblivion, Gears, Bioshock, Halo 3, Assassins Creed, Modern Warfare, Mass Effect, GTA4, RE5...was just a really special window in console gaming that has yet to be repeated.

That magic was all on PS3 and PC as well. Microsoft provided no magic.
