Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pokemon Go Success Shows That Nintendo Should Go Full Mobile and call Quits on Consoles/Handhelds!

Nintendo is still going to release the NX. They've gone too far down that path to turn back, now. However, with the rumors we have heard (basically Wii U 2.0), I don't see the NX being a success. Not when it's supposedly underpowered compared to the OG PS4, let alone the Neo. However, the success of Pokemon Go definitely gives Nintendo a path out of console HW. I still hope they publish games on the PS4, but they may just stick to mobile gaming, which is closer to their most successful market, handhelds.

There's an equal amount of rumours saying it's in between the PS4 and Neo and even beyond it (which I don't believe).

OT: They still make a profit on consoles/handhelds and that's not changing any time soon with the NX (which is apparently going to be sold for a profit at launch). As long as their core handheld/console markets are bringing in profits, they don't have a reason to abandon them. It'd make about as much sense as Sony quitting PlayStation because of their insurance business.

There are two outcomes to aggressively going mobile in any capacity: outright failure, or a marked shift in the quality we want. There's a reason King and companies that make exclusively games similar to King are the ones succeeding, and it's because of predatory microtransactions. If you want Nintendo to go mobile, you're asking for the world to lose the Nintendo we all want.

Plus, Nintendo isn't even doing anything here besides profiting. They didn't make the game, they licensed somebody else to make it. If anybody seriously wants Nintendo to move it's thousands of employees exclusively to mobile, they likely just don't want to see Nintendo around anymore.

Predicting and wanting are two different things. Because somebody predicts that it could be a serious direction for Nintendo to drop hardware and only do software, it doesn't mean that they want Nintendo to do it.

I don't even think there are that many Nintendo haters on this site but some Nintendo fans on here act like they are being picked on.

Was just on the KTLA evening news, the LAPD is warning people to be aware of their surroundings while playing Pokemon Go.

This is crazy, this may end up bigger than the Wii craze of 2006/07.

thats extreme however i will say that they should've been doing things like this a long time ago. I am not convinced that this will help there home consoles sales. (Just cause a lot of people got a free app for a device they already own does not mean they will spend hundreds of dollars for another device to play Pokemon) But it cant hurt the HW either

If you're predicting Nintendo to go mobile, I have even less sympathy for you. Not that your entire reply isn't effectively a redirection, since nobody has been predicting them to that I've seen - it's all been want.

We're talking about a massive app that's a few days old like it's a permanent installment in Nintendo. This could fall apart a week from now once people get bored of it, or it could redefine mobile gaming. We don't know, and people are going out of their way to suggest that one of the three biggest brand in gaming's first mobile outing is the catalyst for a multi-billion dollar company to leave specifically what's made it those multi-billion dollars. If anybody is predicting at this point he/she is in lala land; if they're wanting, again, probably a sign that they're not the audience Nintendo aims for anyway. You don't need a passive aggressive shot at me to acknowledge that, especially considering I'm generally equally critical to any of the big three, not some apologist.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Isn't it premature to make such claims on just 2 mobile games made/published by Nintendo? I never understood why people are saying that. It could be people just teasing to ruffle the feathers of Ninten fans.

I would certainly hope Ninten doesn't go full mobile at least for handhelds. Trying a few small games is fine, but I can't imagine myself playing fully on my phone. I don't need all the extra functions of a phone included in my gaming device...

People who want Nintendo to go third party or spread their IPs to other platforms out of the goodness of their hearts is like saying Sony should just sell the PS4 for $100 or for free out of the goodness of their hearts. They're a business first and foremost. If Nintendo feels like they can maintain control of their IPs and showcase them in a variety of ways (the freedom that they may or may not have if they go third party) through their dedicated platforms then why not? They've emphasized on software and hardware intertwining with each other. As of now, we don't know how Pkmn Go will fare long term. It's a wait and see thing for now.

What exactly do those two games have in common with Go aside from being ios/'droid games?

Both are free mobile games with a strong reception everywehere, just like Pokemon Go. They didn't fade in a week, Pokemon Go doesnt look like it will either, the game is addictive and is gonna be expanded through time.

It's too shallow to have a long shelf life imo but we'll have to wait and see. Sun and Moon launch in a few months and that's were the core fan base is going to go. The casuals... well... you know how fickle they are.

Lol at some people here, is ps4 lack game so it need Nintendo games on it? Lol

The Brand recognition that Nintendo has is only due to the awesome quality of their first party output on their own consoles, if they were to go full-mobile in a matter of a few decades nobody would care anymore about the Nintendo IPs and Nintendo would go bankrupt. I don't think going Third Party is good either since to make better profits they would need to develop for multiple systems ending in an overall lower quality of their titles.
