Forums - Sony Discussion - Is the outrage towards PS4K proof that console gamers care more about performance and visuals than they're willing to admit?

Considering the low cost of the PS4 at launch I definitely am not outraged by the thought of a more powerful version of it existing within the next year, I mean think of it like this the original Xbox360 sounds like the world is ending while it's playing a game in comparison to the slim models of the system, my original one works fine but if I wanted to I could have "upgraded" it for more money and had a slightly quieter system, the ps4k means that if something happens to my own ps4 or if I decide that there is a reason to "upgrade" within the generation I'll get more than just a quieter fan for the extra cash, why would this cause outrage?

There have been hardware revisions as far back as I can remember, all the models of the Atari2600, The Master system I/II, Megadrive 1/2/3, Playstation 1/PSone, PS2/PS2slim, GameBoy/Pocket,Xbox360/Slim/E, Psp1000/2000/3000/Go (Go had some hardware upgrades), PS3/Slim/Super slim.... I'm sure there are more but yeah with very few exceptions each of these has offered little more than a form factor change and often not an upgrade to the user The E model of the Xbox360 is just to make it look like the design of the X1

TL:DR I think about a ps4k not as something that takes value from the console I own but that exists as an optional upgrade like the many Slim systems before it, but now offering more than just 1 inch more space in my house.

I'm sure that was what SEGA was thinking.

Unfortunely there is more to it than that. It's perceived value of the product. Not only the "upgrade" but the vanilla versions. There is nothing to gain from this in the long term.

Honestly, while I do agree with some of your points and I have nothing against Ps4k in theory, i smelll a ton of insecurity indeed, but part of it is coming from you. Where is the outrage?

If this was something related to Nintendo or Microsoft you would see people shitting about it for months absolutely everywhere, wether they have good reasons or not to shit about is another story, however this comes from Sony and I'm seeing close to no outrage at all, wich is what me and many people were expecting, so why are you so concerned about? Sure there are some angry voices, but they are so silent compared to the shitstorm everyone else gets for any stupid thing that is not remarkable.

Oh, and really, a more powerfull machine is what you need to recover your lost faith in the company? That doesnt sound superficial at all.

There is not outrage. Sony can do anything and people will still idolatrate them.

Pretty much this, and if anyone dares to be unhappy about this, there´s already the thought police in action, shaming and ridiculing others, there are fans that even want to coin the nickname PSpoor just to make the point that if you don´t want to upgrade you are just poor.

Their shouldn't be any outrage, I have no idea why there is, can someone explain why people are upset?

One console won't be enough anymore. The quality of games released on it will probably be lower than it is now, at least in some regards (framerate, possible resolution). And who wouldn't want the new model anyway once it comes out, even if the games for the current model didn't lose their quality? It seems quite natural to want better things when they're available (the phone market is an excellent example of this).

To be fair this is a better solution than something like N64's expansion pak, because in the end that became mandatory for mulitple games. Increasing gpu and cpu power creates less compatibility issues than expanding the RAM.

No need to use facts. Sony and all of its fans are evil, mkay? They clearly have never complained about anything Sony has done, if we ignore of all the times they have complained.

Sega used upgrades that cost $300(CD) and $400(32x) respectively(and this was in the 90's). The problem with upgrades is that you can't sell the original console, wich makes it very expensive.

That much we know. Bur that probably isn't what SEGA was thinking would happen. If you think from the PoV of someone that got the PS4 already, it will be an extra 400€/$. Its not too different.

It's time to face it. Upgrades and peripherals just don't work. They never have. I don't see why it should start now.

Should I be outraged because a game that runs on my year 1 PS4 at 1080/30 runs at 1080/60 on PS4K (and prolly 900/30 on competition)? Unless they intentionally gimp the og PS4 version(make the game worse than the gen8 competition) I see no reason to bother. I mean the game wouldn´t run any better on the og version even if there was no PS4k and Vanilla PS4 will still be the strongest gen8 Console.
