Backward compatibility was the main feature.

Wii U: 19 of the top 20 games are exclusives. The only exception is ZombiU, which recently went MP. We can logically reach the conclusion that most people buy the Wii U for exclusives.

Wii u and 3ds for all the Nintendo classics like zelda, Mario, SSB ect plus the virtual console sevrice.

Xbox one mostly for Halo MCC and third party games.

I'd say brand loyalty, but I really bought the PS4 for the exclusives that aren't available anywhere else. That and because it's where most of my friends are.

Even though there are a couple of games only available on Xbox One that I'd really like to play, like Deadrising 3, I just don't see myself dishing out money for another console. And I doubt my laptop can run it.

Aren't brand loyalty, track record and exclusives similar reasons?

You are loyal to a brand that has a track record of releasing exclusives in genres you like.

I bought my PS4 and my PS Vita because they have the best exclusive and third party games imo.
