When I visited Alaska and Denali everyone there already called it Denali. I had no idea it had another name until this came up.

It was built on Lakota ground without their permission.

Honestly the other name was only used on maps and by select few in Ohio (As in people not from Alaska). People are really blowing this up, because 1) It is Obama, if this was anyone else it would be swept under the rug. 2) Americans ignore other important issues, and treat small ones as super important.
He should also rename The United States of America.
thats racist.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic to make fun of how silly this is...but god I hope so.
Bet with Adamblaziken:
I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Unfortunately that's not exclusive to Americans |
Oh it isn't but I think with America has something extra in the bias, and that is Network 24 Hour News Stations. Basically you have the public having no clue that things like infrustructure decay exist compared to the latest pet the Kardeshians have.

Oddly enough, this documentary suggests that if humans suddenly and mysteriously died out right now, after 10,000 years, Mt Rushmore would be the only visible clue on Earth that we even existed. View the video from about 1:20:45.
Back on topic, I must admit I'd never heard of Mt. Mckinley until now; Denali is a much better name IMO.
As far as confusion over renaming things is concerned, there's no worry there. Places, cities, entire countries get renamed, and people just get used to the new name.

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Even old New York Was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

Actually, spurge has a point. It being the largest mountain of North America means that people around the world know of it. That's the kind of superficial stuff that comes up even in basic geography classes: Largest mountains, longest rivers etc. Mount McKinley is like Mont Blanc and Mount Everest. Admittedly, you have a point too. The United States of America are a country where 20% of the population's answer to the question to name a country that starts with the letter U would be Yugoslavia. |
Presuming even 20% of the American population has ever heard of Yugoslavia. Assuming stuff like that, now that is a slippery slope...
