$$$. They've got the money to advertise more, get more exclusives and possibly undercut Sony and Ninty on price. Also, the X360 has the highest tie-ratio this gen (indicating higher levels of consumer satisfaction than the Wii and PS3) so consumers will remain with the Xbox brand and less satisfied Sony and Ninty consumers will switch and support the Xbox brand.

Oh yeah, and I wouldn't be so sure that Sony are gonna offer free online next gen...

Hmm. The $$$ didnt help them to dominate in over 10 Years of competition. Billions spent on advertising...

The tie-ratio point is quite silly too in reality. Look at the PS2 t-r (~1.5 Billion games on ~157M consoles) and how it helped PS3. You need quality and variety at launch. You need exclusives and maintained support. Its not tie-ratio that you should have pointed out. You should have said growing brand strength in the likes of America, UK and Australasia.

Considering your recent record on things, Ill choose not to even bother with your last point.

The $$$ helped them establish the Xbox brand from nothing - it was money well spent.

@bolded, huh?

Looks like the score is all tied up between the 6th and 7th Gens since the companies basically did a flip flop from 6 to 7, first to worst, worst to first, etc. I'm thinking the 8th Gen will be the tie breaker between all 3 companies, Nintendo got a head start which helps, only time will tell who comes out on top.

6th Gen Sony had MS and Nintendo on the ropes, but they both bounced back in the 7th Gen and now they've got Sony down in last place at the moment. Can Sony stage a comeback or are they going down???

Though I'm also expecting they may adapt some of Nintendo's marketing methods which were used to reduce advertising costs.

What's that? o:

Well I can see it this way only use media to push the console itself, maybe with tie ins on third party games. But have things like a Nintendo Direct/Channel to push the games. Where they can advertise only to the users with a more directed marketing method they can see better gains. Because tradition media is unfocused because you don't know for the most part if the information is getting to the people who will buy it. By using the console itself and their digital shop in a more prominate way you can push on the people who will be buying the games. You reduce the costs buy not having to purcase advertising space for a game. In terms of the Wii U Wara Wara plaza where it take a few games based off of what you a user alread has and features simular games on the plaza with select posts from Miiverse poping up using user experiences to push for new purchases.

I never said it wasnt well spent in establishing a brand, I said it hasnt helped them dominate. They haven't come close to dominating anywhere quite yet. There is no reason to think that fortunes will change.

Xbox - Billions spent on 2nd place.
Xbox 360 - Billions spent on 2nd place.

Market share may have increased gen-over-gen, but they may even finish up with the smallest share when all is said and done.

The bolded is more on your recent antics in other threads where youve been adamant on something.

I was joking in that other thread, but I'm being serious in this one. I genuinely think that Sony will indroduce mandatory online fees next gen.

I think MS brand is at its peak honestly. I see it gaining a bit of market share next round only because Nintendo is going to lose a ton.

Sony - 38%
MS - 36%
Nintendo - 26%

Oh, and no console is 'dominating' anywhere. The X360 is doing great in USA and Europe though (better than ANYONE would've expected 7 years ago)...all thanks to Microsoft spending billions to establish the Xbox brand.

It is impressive what they did. Im not denying that. The argument is though that the Billions of $$$ spent hasnt helped them dominate. I dont think it will suddenly make them dominate next gen when theyre facing the "gaming giants".

Look at m-b-p's prediction.

Microsoft - 47%
Nintendo - 33%
Sony - 20%

That is clearly the Nextbox dominating. Anywhere over 45% in a 3-way dance is dominating.

I asked how. He said $$$. That $$$ hasnt made them dominate anywhere. They will end with substantial leads in 2 countries - USA and UK, after 11 Years of Billions of Dollars.

Another interesting bit of data is the growth of the industry in general.

The total from the big 3 for the 6th gen is about 200 million (you can add a million or two because of the PS2 tracking issue). The total for the 7th gen is already at 240 million with surely many more millions to go.

Without a phenomenon like the Wii, I'm not sure the 8th will be able to grow over the 7th. What do you guys think?
