Forums - Sony Discussion - What system sellers could PS Vita possibly have?

I'm asking this because I am genuinely curious.

It seems to me like all possible system sellers like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Gran Turismo and Uncharted have superior versions on the PS3, which should halt their performance significantly. It just doesn't make sense to play games with deep stories or games that are heavily reliant on graphics and realism on a portable console: On the road, you won't get the same sensation as you would at the comfort of your home , while at home it wouldn't make much sense to play Call of Duty on a small system with tiny sticks, poor sound, a small screen and loading times slower than the system's sales when there's a PS3 right next to you. (Not to mention that you would look like a total nerd playing hardcore games in public...)

So, what do you think? Will the old system sellers actually push sales, or will Sony be forced to create new IP's specifically designed for the hardware like Nintendo's Brain Training and Nintendogs?

Difficult too say, I agree with the OP's view about COD, GT, GTA, etc.
As I said in another thread, Vita needs something new, as LocoRoco or Patapon were for PSP, even though they weren't big system sellers they brought something fresh to the table.
Just a few people want to play big games on the go, the real handled market is different, and the rise of smartphones and tablets doesn't help Sony.

I would say they must going both ways.Create new IPs which will become big by the time and offer big old IPS to sell the system.

For future system sellers i easily see a new God of War or Gran Turismo on the Horizon.
Also what is Sony Bend doing right now. maybe working on Uncharted Golden Abyss 2.
Then there will be the Killzone vita game and maybe a new IP from Insomniak games?

Monster Hunter!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I think that taking console games and putting them on the Vita will move consoles, particularly GTA, CoD, FF, MGS etc. I know they have superior console versions, but my PS3 does not fit in my pocket

I think the other thing that might help will be if they actually sort out PS Suite, and so get Android games onto the Vita so that people get the best of both worlds (and I can play Max Payne 1 on my Vita)

Isn´t Insomniac done with Sony? They are Multiplatform now for what I know.

A Resident Evil and Monster Hunter game would help the Vita to sell. And Bioshock Vita is on the Horizon too. I would like to buy the the Vita. But right now there are only two games worth buying for it, so I will wait at least for Bioshock.

Something not available on the PS360/3DS. I also disagree about Monster Hunter, as Nintendo have already released one and have MH4 ready for the 3DS, likely we'll hear more about this in the coming weeks. In addition, Nintendo would not have announced the game so long ago if it was a joint-venture with Sony, especially as no other MH game in the series has been released on 2 different consoles at the same time.

So a new IP, but something that will sell well, and will take into account the advantages of the system. Sounds easy, no?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Your mom.

Nah jokes

Monster Hunter definitely

Yay!!!

As I see it, even creating new successful IP's could be a struggle for the company.

If they create a hardcore title, then it's not very likely to sell very well (as far as I know, feel free to prove me wrong) and even if it somehow would, then people would demand a superior home console version.

If they create a casual title though, then it's not very likely to sell well because of all the competition from smartphones and the 3DS. And on top of that: Casuals mostly prefer their games cheap, but from what I have heard the online store for the Vita is very expensive. (again, feel free to fill me in)

Sony pretty much painted themselves into a corner, in my opinion. Expensive hardware does not leave much room for casual buyers, and portable gaming does not leave much room for hardcore buyers.

You're pretty much bang on. Sony is really stuck now. They can't create a new IP as it may not sell (Gravity Rush if you look at pre-orders), they can't create a console experience because people will get it on the consoles (Mortal Kombat), Nintendo have taken Monster Hunter for at least another 2-3 years I'd say, and as the sales continue to fall, 3rd parties will begin to lose confidence and move over to the 3DS or can the games altogether (Assassin's Creed 3DS).
