only reproach i can give nintendo is for not making new ips(no the wii sport, wii party, wii sports resort, don't count yes they are fun, all games are fun, i want a new experience) other then smg and smg2 i haven't gotten a new experience smash bros and mario kart where very fun but i want the series to evolve, i'm sick of 2d platformers, yes their are great 3rd party games coming but id rather spend my money on 3rd party games on the ps3.
Being in 3rd place never felt so good

But we can agree that Brawl did not over-rely on them, especially compared to Melee?
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

With the amount of time they had, there shouldn't have been any. So yes they did overrely on them. I mean come on, they couldn't make a unique move list for Ganon? Would that have been so hard?
Time for hype

The article (which is a complete joke) itself talks about having Nintendo parties when they were younger and that Nintendo no longer brings experiences like that anymore... when that IS the appeal of the Wii that is what stirred all the love for the Wii to begin with, going over to your friends house to play Wii Sports, having fun, having these "Nintendo Parties", it wasn't Nintendo that changed, it was what they wanted out of games, period. |
But you totally forgot all the cool Mario Party games, Star Fox Adventure, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and TLoZ: Four Swords! Donkey Konga was pretty swell too lol
I just loved the Gamecube. Not as much as the SNES and the N64 though.
I have but pity for those poor souls that don't play MH3.
On the other hand, I think I have to buy a PS3 soon for the good JRPG. This after finishing all the game I bought for my Wii.... :sigh:
There's too many of them ! (old rogue squadron quote :F)

They're like a lesser Apple. But I have to say the Wii, even being their most successful console to date, has their worst games library ever. The stockholder may be happy, but the demaning, enthusiastic gamer is not. |
I know you don't have bad intentions, but I really don't think it's fair to generalize like that. I'm sure there are people out there who are not satisfied with the Wii, and that's perfectly fine, but there are many (many) people such as myself who are more than happy with their console choice.
As a demanding, enthusiastic gamer, I'm having a blast with my console.

Mario Party hasn't been as good as the N64 games in a while and even then there was Mario Party 8 on Wii with Wii Party being the new replacement, Jungle Beat has a Wii port that doesn't require the bongos, and four swords took too much investment.
And yes I loved the Gamecube too but it doesn't mean it wasn't Nintendo's low point and negate this articles point entirely.

I won't comment on the others, but I hope you're not implying The Legend of Zelda for the NES was a weak game! It's tied with Twilight Princess in user reviews on VGC, though I personally think it's better (not that it means much, since all console Zeldas are of extremely high quality)
As for the big whine in the OP, I question whether they know what "The Old Nintendo" is really about. It seems to me like the people who favor HD consoles are more fans of PC games than anything, with all the attention on graphics, story and such, and very little attention on local multiplayer, arcade style fun.
Old video game consoles, or "The Old Nintendo" was always focused on the latter. The NES games barely had any story, and had poor graphics compared to PC games. Nintendo did slowly drift off with the SNES and N64... with the GC way out there, being Nintendo's worst console by far (though largely because Rare was at its worst).
So I'm not sure how the console isn't associated with the mutual enjoyment of people who liked the old games (particularly NES, or arcade games), as it is easily the console with the strongest local multiplayer lineup on the market. People like our gran, our nieces, or other non-gamers? They loved the NES. It had games like Tetris, Duck-Hunt, and Pac-Man on it.
Remember, the Wii is not even 4 years old. Since the Wii is most comparable to the NES, just remember what the NES looked like at the same age - missing some of the most prolific games from the system, like Mega Man 2 and SMB3, FF and DQ...

What game are you going to get? Honestly there isn't many good JRPGs anywhere right now, best things on PS3 are VC and Demons Souls and I don't really classify Demon's Souls as a JRPG rather just pure RPG.
