Forums - Sales Discussion - Which will be the first to hit 50 million (HD consoles only)

My mind says Xbox 360.
My heart says Playstation 3.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Around the Network

I doubt, that x360 will ever reach 50 mln. units.

PS3.

You Don't really think that its going to have an effect like the wii did do you? The masses? ok let me explain this to you

elderly people play the wii     No controller makes casual games even less confusing... +elderly
I'd love to see an elderly person get past the dashboard
The system can be set up to not go into the dashboard
assumptions??
Assumptions??  It's a dashboard option right now.  You have a 360 and didn't know that?

a lot of Females love the wii   Fitness games that track complete body movement and use Xbox Live to compare workout stats, etc... +females
what fitness games have been announced or are you making assumptions? if they do make fitness games, will people who already own a wii and wii fit buy the copy cat version so they can have both?
People never buy whatever the latest fitness craze is right?  That's why there's no fitness industry anymore...
That didn't make any sense like i said in the real world we live in real people are struggling to pay of debt wht would they by another console for the same thing?
I agree nobody is buying anything new in the real world.  Women already have clothes and shoes for example and that's why they never buy any new ones.

kids love the wii  Kids will love Milo & Kate... +kids
Milo was scripted
And...?  Do you think kids are really expecting the next AI breakthrough?  They'll be happy to finger paint witha character on the screen.
struggling to pay bills, i know lets buy a few hundred ££ machine just to finger paint
There were parents paying $100-$200 (or more) over list price on eBay for the Wii when it was the popular thing to get but you're right nobody is going to pay even half that price for something new.

Blokes mostly like the wii because they know if they get it to make the wife happy they might get "some" that night.  See above... +"blokes"
see above his wife would probably hit him for wasting money on something they already have
No worries since it'll probably be the wives buying it anyways. really? I've not heard of many women buying 360s for their own amusment, the wii on ther other hand... plenty
Before the Wii how often did you hear of women buying video game consoles for exercise?  Also we're talking about Natal not the original non-Natal Xbox 360.

That is the mass audience the wii sold too, my nan plays the wii, can you imgine what games and elderly person would like to play on NATAL? can you imagine your nan playing halo reach???  No but does she like game shows?  What about bowling?  What about playing with her nephew from afar and being able to see him!
If she likes bowling i think everyone would recomned to her the wii> 360 any day of the week
Wait, the same nan that couldn't bypass a dashboard earlier is going to prefer trying to figure out a Wii remote over using just her body? yes because its  simple to get aim and point, like the remote to the telly to click on the game after she put it in, no confusing dash
See comment above about the setting in the Dashboard to automatically bypass it if a game is in the drive.

do you imagine lots of women who like the wii wanting to jump ships really?  Yes I can actually when new fitness software that emphasis group experiences is released.  That's the power of Natal + Xbox Live.
No use common sense its a waste of money on what they already have
Is that why the fitness and weight loss industries are so big?
I never  once said it wasnt big, i said why would they buy the same on the 360 when they have it on the wii already, why waste money??
Well because it wouldn't be the same thing?  Or could you point out the fitness game on Wii that doesn't use the Wii Balance Board and/or Wii Remote.

and what happens to the blokes who can't be arsed to get up jump around and pretend to shoot after a hard days work, the people that just want to use a controller, Yes nintendo took the chance and make it well, Microsoft is blatantly copying but its really not going to work out the same Blantantly copying?  Do you mean with a "wand" like controller?  Or can you show me all the hands free gesture driven Nintendo games?  like i said earlier in the thread yes microsoft and sony are copying, but sony knows from first hand expirience not to put there all into it, which seems to be what they are doing with natal.
Yeah Sony learned from the last time but Microsoft hasn't learned anything.  That's why Sony promotes their motion controller to core gamers and Microsoft to casuals, because they learned from Nintendo's success (it's Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition that is responsible for the Wii's amazing sales success not Wii Sports, right?!?).Well there about to learn
They're about to learn that Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is why the Wii was a success?  Umm ok...

The 360.

1) It still has a lead of more than 5m units.
2) I expect Microsoft to drop the price next year, while Sony most likely won't. This is going to shift the momentum back in Microsoft's favor before the PS3 has caught up.
3) Currently the 360 is only 14m away from the 50m mark.
4) By selling roughly another 10m units next year, the 360 will be only 4m away from the target while still being in the lead over the PS3 by at least 2m units with the gap increasing in Microsoft's favor or remaining stagnant.
5) Selling about 4m should be doable in the first half of 2011 and even a price drop of the PS3 in spring won't be enough to overtake the 360 before it hits 50 million.
6) Exclusive games and motion controls from both sides will most likely offset each other, so they don't have to be taken in consideration.

This man speaks the truth, as always!

Once a console hits $199, a price reduction afterwards usually doesn't receive the same affect as a cut from 299 to 199.

clean slate im tired of quoting, but trust me hand your nan or an old person a 360 they will say, oohhh nooo i cant use one of those its to advanced for me and im too old to start learning, i work with old people all day at work with tescos when i work the self scan tills, which are really easy, but they wont touch it, but i know the family would rather get there gran parents a wii over the 360....period, there may have been people spending that much on ebay becuase they are desperate for a wii (lol) but that's because its really in high demand and there were shortages and thats a hand full of people who obviously have plenty of money

now i am off to buy skittles, as i havnt had them in ages and this thread has made me want some

When sony introduced casual motion sensing and exercising together this happend it had some successand the other eye toy games after it but still some idea like this (NATAL) won 't catch the Wii success

I hear ya, just because one company doesn't have success with a product it means everyone else won't be successful with anything remotely similar to it.  Oh, did you know there was a fitness video game pad before Wii Fit?  It didn't do too well and that's the reason why Wii Fit didn't sell either.  Err wait...  Add-ons don't sell!  *looks at Wii Balance Board and tons of Wii add-ons*.......

there a lot of eye toy games for ps2,  Wii from the very start was inroduced as a motion sensor-console ps3 and 360 as HD-gaming consoles so everything around the Wii sells because the systam it self is has huge sells if PS2 was inroduced as motion-sensor console years later a similiar Wii-Fit game will have sold tons and somthing for comparisonWii Sports 55.89 (Sony wand similiar) Wii-Fit 22.85(NATAL similiar)facts talk on their own

All am saying some people are making NATAL sound like the second coming of Christ which it isn't, we don't want motion control, as Chad Warden says "we just want to play some gamez!"

We didn't want the Wii either, but a TON of people did.  MILLLLLLLLLLLLIONS did and STILL do.  People are celebrating the PS3 selling a million in one week and the Wii owners are like 'um . . . when you do that over 10 times call me'.

The truth is that every casual person that I know that has seen Natal got really excited about it.  Its going to be hot and its going to push the 360 big next year.  Whether that can be sustained by good software will have to seen, but there is and will be a lot of excitement around it coming from casuals and especially the media.  That can't be ignored.

It won't be the second coming of Christ or even the second coming of Wii, but if casuals are wanting it for Natal and hardcores for Halo Reach, Fable III and 'Unannounced AAA title', fall 2010 will potentially be very, very big for the 360.

Now some people said this when the 360 was in its infancy, some even said it when the 360 reached 20m....  but the 360 will have around 36.5m under its belt by the end of 2009....

I mean.... come on!

x360 is already 4 years on the market. Usually, sales start to decline at this point. x360 price was never a problem.
