funny how he says that portable games (and he doesn't even mention the PSP) are bowling & Tetris OR Mario & Zelda, and then there's GTA
the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

but you want us to treat you like one place in terms of economic data for reports? have i not read countless things where the EU is ahead of america? I do understand that there are vast socioeconomic differences between locations and cultural heritage laws and standards can be different, but that is no different the recognizing the USA and not breaking it down by states where issues vary wildly including adoption rates, earning, social values and laws.
are you not committing the same sin you say the americans are perpetrating on you?

Well, that confirms once and for all that Pachter is fratcore. I'd suspected it for a long time, but there's nothing quite like hearing the graphics-are-everything lie straight from the horse's mouth.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

Only the bits about Wii HD and Apple were ridiculous.
The Wii HD because the majority of people do not care about HD, and somebody who has never played a game before will not want BioShock (for some reason)
The Apple bit because NOTHING threatens the DS, it is a beast, and it will be a beast until the day it is discontinued. The iPhone and iTouch have been out for years, they have had no effect on DS sales. If you want a DS, you will get a DS, and not a phone/MP3 player which happens to run some (mostly poor) games. As for the PSP...even more so. How many people are going to think "I prefer the games on iPod Touch to PSP"? The PSP doesn't enjoy the massive casual (and indeed hardcore) fanbase of the DS, so the iPod Touch is irrelevant, and Steve Jobs is being an arrogant tool if he thinks the iTouch is a superior gaming device to either the DS OR the PSP.
If we take the rather condescending "ignorant masses" approach to it, though, his argument gets rather deflated. Many people buy an HDTV and assume that gets them HD content, so they're not going to notice the difference. Equally, he points to the TV networks, but that is another issue of companies catering to their own "hardcore," the affluent young adult who understands and craves HD content, and is in many of their key advertising demographics. Kids don't care about HD, older parents probably don't care quite so much, old people definitely don't care
The problem with HD, especially on televisions, is it really isn't enough of a game-changer to completely negate content. You're not going to watch a show you just like a little in favor of a show you love, just because the former is in HD. And the divide between game consoles was never really about HD. I mean, if you run a side-by-side comparison between a Wii and 360 multiplat title at the same resolution, the difference is still going to be quite visible. It's more about plain old graphics power than it is about HD.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
i love the by 2010 and 2012 part is when most people will be on hdtv.
well guess what? by 2012 Nintendo will probably launch a new HD console (as in next gen console), meaning they timed their HD entry JUST RIGHT.
I think Nintendo will launch the Wii successor (whatever you want to call it -- Wii HD, Super Wii, Wii 2, etc.) in 2011 ... basically keeping that 5 year cycle.
But it will be a much more "phased" transition, meaning the "classic Wii" will be sold alongside the new model and you may even have cross-platform games (ie: Dragon Quest X runs on classic Wii just fine, but on Wii 2, it runs in HD resolution) at the beginning.
