@sharky : Kaz Hiraï has stated multiple times that PS3 Playstation BUSINESS as a whole (PS3 hardware / PS3 software / PS3 peripherals) was already profitable, even last year. Go check it then you'll stop spreading lies. http://news.spong.com/article/19015/Kaz-Hirai-PS3-Platform-Profitable-Since-Last-Year

MS WAS successful in the past, it's a lot less true now.

MS is not in a good situation, unlike what you think :
- on the net, MS is killed by Google (ads revenue).
- in browsers, IE is killed by Firefox and Safari
- in OS : Vista was a complete failure and a lot of people / companies won't upgrade to Windows 7 either. Many PC are now sold with linux
- in Zune business they're killed by Apple products
- in Office Suite, they're losing market shares too to Open Office.

All MS has left is two weakening cash cows (Windows and Office).

What Kaz said was carefully worded..he said on a GROSS profit level. What this means in business terms is not counting many expenses such as employees. You can be sure overall the PS3 isn't profitable. You can also check Sony's financials for proof of that. You seem terribly uneducated about these matters.

If MS is in bad shape making 3-4 billion in profit per quarter, I'd hate to see what Sony is according to you, when Sony is LOSING money every quarter. Sony is getting killed in TV's by Samsung and Vizeo, killed by Apple everywhere else.  Walkman used to be the standard now kids dont even know what a Walkman is they all have iPods. Sony is losing money in every division, not just gaming.

BTW MS bing is doing well, Zune HD is revitalized, and their cash cows are not "weakling" and linux is a huge failue..all netbooks used to ship with linux, today MS has 96% market share in netbooks with Windows XP, and Windows 7 is a huge success as is Xbox 360.

Which include a lot more things than just video games. Good call there.

They were losing money in videogames division pretty much every quarter BEFORE the recent reorginization, which only took effect one quarter so far, and what do you know, they lost money in the division gaming was in again, although now you cant directly prove it was gaming's fault (just like you cant DIRECTLY prove Xbox won or lost money), it clearly was if you have an ounce of sense.

Just admit it man, you were wrong. Accept that and move on.

Ahaha you're funny since I'm the only one in this thread who appears to actually know what I'm talking about.

Exactly what parts am I massively wrong on? Enlighten me so we can start looking at the facts such as public financial statements and see who is right and who is wrong.

But by all means, continue living in bizzaro world where Sony's video game division is profitable when it factually has lost billions over the last three years. If it makes you feel better.

Same with the Zune and ipod.

People don't call the PS3 a failure because it's in third place in sales. People call it that because it's lost its company billions of dollars.

Xbox 1 and 360 RROD lost MS billions of dollars too.

The playstation business is now profitable, by the way. Whichever way you look at it, it's now MS which is in trouble, not Sony. That's why MS just slashed the elite 360 price twice in a few weeks (first to 299$, now again to 249$).

Being outsold 2:1 like this week on a regular basis by a more expensive competitor would be a terrible performance.

The Playstation business isn't profitable. That division has lost money the last several qaurters/years. Including the most recent. So until you have any proof it's profitable..it isn't.

BTW, Sony is in such bad shape they have to offer free Blu Ray, free wi-fi, and pay for online themselves to get anybody to buy it at the same price as the competitor (360).

priceless.

The issue here is that you're using these post-organization numbers to prove Kaz wrong. You can not do this because it does not specify what each segment of the division is losing.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Can anyone tell me why we haven't seen third week leeked numbers for Japan for PS3 slim yet. :( which should be the week ending September 19th??

Even then, MS is still making 3-4 billion profits per quarter, much more than Google, Apple or Nintendo (especially Sony which isn't even profitable as a company). Also about your points:

- on the net, MS is killed by Google (ads revenue).

This is true, I won't argue about that

- in browsers, IE is killed by Firefox and Safari.

IE still has 60-70% market share worldwide, Firefox and Safari aren't even close except in some countries. IE doesn't have as huge monopoly in browsers as it used to have but it still not "killed" by it's competitors.

- in OS : Vista was a complete failure and a lot of people / companies won't upgrade to Windows 7 either. Many PC are now sold with linux

Vista was a relative failure but most people have never even heard about Linux. Over 90% of the PC's are still sold with Windows. In reality Linux doesn't even have 1% market share. Even nettops mostly have Windows XP (old version but still money goes to MS), not Linux. OSX has better change but even that is very far from Windows. Only country in the world where OSX is big is USA, elsewhere OSX is almost unknown.

- in Zune business they're killed by Apple products

True

- in Office Suite, they're losing market shares too to Open Office.

Open Office is only a tiny competitor in reality. People talk a lot about Open Office but only very few actually uses it. Almost no major company in the world has changed to Open Office because it's still too amateurish and unreliable. Google Office might become a competitor for MS Office but Open Office is not a big threat for MS Office.

Look at the bigger picture the PS3 has lost millions upon millions since launch. The PS3 will have to sell 150k in each territory for another year to even make a dent. With only 57k in the 2nd week things are beginning to stabalize and it's bombing even the GoW release had a better hike in sales in Japan than the price cut!!

truly pathetic

Expect them tomorrow, right before the Week's #s go up. It could also have something to do with TGS being upon us.

I also think it had to do something with Silver Week, which everyone is off of work.  MC numbers may be late too, but I don't know.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
