Forums - Nintendo - Why does the Zelda series exclusively focus on Ganondorf as an antagonist?

Oh, i think some people took my comment a little differently then I thought.

I would think that Ganondorf would still be an enemy, but not the final enemy, you'd run into him several times (maybe even a few battles, throw in the classic ping pong of energy) and eventually he is killed by the real villain, then Link has to go to the final 3 dungeons and assemble the super secret item then go to the villains lair and kill him.

Ganon in OoT and TP was a mindless douchebag lusting for power. WW Ganon was an actual human being with a personality and reasons behind his actions.

I prefer Ganon (Or Ganondorf) as the main baddie. Though I didn't like him in TP (To be honest, that whole plot messed me up. Still not sure I get it. Did Ganon really die, because the game said Zant wouldn't die unless Ganon did. But isn't Ganon immortal?) While I didn't like him in TP, I did enjoy him in WW. Something about seeing a more ... I don't want to say real, but less cliche that other versions of the character. He wasn't the typical all-evil Ganon. They showed him as someone who was envious, jealous of what Hyrule had (Not someone who wanted power for power's sake). And the ending with the sword in his head and him laughing quietly. I dunno, just does it for me.

So yeah, I'd like to see Ganon again. But it's time for Nintendo to step up what this guy can do. Zelda has become far too flat, and I hate to even feel that way. The series can never stray far from it's core, of dungeons and figuring out puzzles. But what it can do, is change boss battles. And try to really make newly acquired weapons useful throughout the entire game. There are far too many items that are only needed in a handful of places, then you don't even need them anymore. I would also like to see more alternatives to how an enemy is beaten. Not always with the item you acquired in that dungeon. And last but not least, it's time to ditch the 'memorize the big bosses moves, counter attack and repeat two more times.' Let's get some epic battles going on here.

That is a insult to Ganon on so manys Lvs...his archnemisis Link hasn't been able to finish him....but some Random other guy does???

Link, Ganondorf, and Zelda will fight against Wario, the god of greed.

Oh, wait, that's just a match i played in Brawl.

...nvm.

More of what Twilight Princess did might be welcome, actually, that Ganondorf is manipulating other forces, other powers. He needs to be the power-broker of ultimate evil.

Maybe someone would try overthrowing him.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

As Jerry Seinfeld would say, Ganondorf is Lex Luthor to Link's Superman.

Ganon is awesome. I actually want Nintendo to focus more on the 3 main characters.

I like that idea.  Ganondorf could manipulate another character, but Ganondorf does not know his "puppet" is secretly trying to steal the Triforce of Power from him.  The last battle is not between Link and Ganondorf, but just before Link reaches Ganondorf, the other villain steals the Triforce of Power.

Some people seem to be over-rating Ganon. If he was as evil as you guys may think, Zant wouldn't have destroyed his dignity in Twilight Princess like he did.

It's a series about a legend: many versions of what is, fundamentally, one story. In that story, Ganondorf is the primary antagonist just as Link is the protagonist. Why is there any problem with this?

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
