Forums - Nintendo - Should Nintendo cut the price of Wii?

No price cut, just toss in a second game and advertise the Hell out of the new bundle so everyone knows they can get 2 games with a Wii instead of just one. $$$$$ will turn into $$$$$$$. Boom.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

A system is only as valuable as the consumer says it is.

And the consumer says Wii is more valuable than the PS3, I don't give a damn what technology is in the box, it's what the box does with the technology, and Wii is clearly superior.

It's kind of like an old coin, its a nickel, it's worth 5 cents, but people pay thousands of dollars for it, is it really worth that much? It is if the consumer is willing to pay. I'm so sick of the value argument.

Yes, you are exatly right,

Basically (for all those watching at home) the consumer judges value, not the manufacturer or the publisher. Sony came into this generation with this mentality and look where they are now.

Yep. You´re right

Value is in the mind of the consumer. Not inside the box.

The challenge here is in keeping the Wii as a higher value product, even facing it with the PS3 slim.

A price cut wont do SQUAT to keep this value. Au contraire, it will downgrade the Wii in the eyes of the consumer.

In early years, wii sports kept this value high almost by itself.

Now Wii Sports Resort is a nice follow up. But wont reach the same level of success as the original (even thou is a better game!)

The answer is to create a game (or games) that can really build the bridge between Casual and Hardcore.

It needs to present the usual themes from hardcore games (same themes as seen on movies), but approach these themes with the Motion control input. Make it more organic than pressing 22 buttons simultaneously.

Maybe this new batch of horror games ( the calling, the grudge, silent hill (maybe)) can start this bridge. But it will take more than that.

I could be wrong but I don't think that the current price of the Wii really limits sales by that much ...

I do think that none of the console manufacturers have really taken advantage of bundles the way they could to encourage system sales without reducing the price. While it wouldn't get people to rush out in a mad panic to buy a Wii, a Wii Fit + Wii Sports bundle on the Wii at $250 would certainly help the Wii maintain its sales level over the next year; and you could probably get a similar result by bundling the Wii with a game and a Wiimote+Nunchuck on top of the Wii Sports bundle.

Ive come up with the best reason to drop price and as soon as possible. To give MS and S motion controls a wake up call and prove that the Nintendo wiimote is still capable of finding mainstream adopters while increasing market share for their particular tech.

Thats why.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

That's not how you do it. A cinamatic game will not work as the expanded audience does not like them. Tackeling the problem from that avenue will not work. Mario Kart Wii did it the best. It still felt like a Mario Kart game, but the big change was the Wii Wheel. But, you could also have a cube controller as well.

I think new colors would be great for sales, but a $50.00 price cut would be better.

Sometimes, I think they should, sometimes I don't.

I think they really should release the Black Wii here. They say the White one sells more. But the only reason that it does is because it is the ONLY color here. It probably doesn't cost more to paints it black than white. and I think it'll boost sales a bit. I know a few people that are waiting for a black Wii.

If they don't drop the price of the Wii this year in NA. I expect them to do it in Q2-October in 2010. Down to $200.

I would like a price drop down to $199, but we will first see colors and or bundles first. I believe that they are in the best position compared to both Sony and Microsoft. Here is what may happen. Colors for the Wii during the holidays. Black and maybe red colors. When the Sony motion controller comes out they will lower the Wii remote down from $40 to $25. Nunchuck from $20 to $10 and lowering the Motion Plus to $10, and on top of that combining the Motion Plus with the Wii remote at $35 When the Natal comes out lower the Wii down to $199. What do you guys think about that. Writing this made me feel that this would be to good to be true. I am just throwing things out.
