Forums - Nintendo - Zelda wii needs to take cues from anime like Rurouni Kenshin & Bleach

Its already a well known fact that Zelda Wii will use Motion+ .This will allow us to be a bit imaginative with our sword attacks as it corresponds to our arm movements.I can finally imagine juggling enemies Devil May Cry style. There were about 10 sword moves in Twilight Princess(besides the regular swinging of the sword) but with some of them just being stronger versions of others(great spin, jump strike, helm splitter..),they got repititve pretty quickly. What's more, most enemies could barely survive a hit from 1 of those hidden skills, and two hits was overkill.

TP only had 2 swords that worked exactly alike.OoT & Majora's mask each had 4 swords that felt different. Many of u probably watch anime,or at least read mangas.Characters usually have varying techniques, different weapons with different properties, and attacks that can only be done with specific weapons. My post refers only to melee combat in Zelda & what I would love it to be like.

http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:aELhjX2yy7I-zM:http://static.squidoo.com/resize/squidoo_images/-1/lens1983232_1210573601kenshin_draw.gif " type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/3209/girlsxswordsinsaneld1.png" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> http://www.magatsu.net/doujinshi/bleach/Zanzibar-BleachFanfictionStarringRenjiAbarai-001.jpg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> http://img3.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire2/04102008/2/d/b/7/2db7dedbb2bb70_full.jpg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash">

These are my ideas.I'm not saying they have to use the exact ideas I come up with,I'm sayin they should start thinkin along this line.Or think better than this:

1.Most other melee weapons in Zelda besides the sword have only 1 attack. There's only 1 possible attack for you to do with it.That attack or nothin else.Don't even bother using the weapon. It'll be a shame if this doesn't change, even with the addition of motion plus.

2.Its a game,no one said the attacks have to be realistic!Literally every sword move in Zelda can be pulled of in real life.Look at the ridiculously cool moves in other games & anime.I mean,u see attacks where the sword sends a shockwave through the air or the ground. These moves would be great for an oversized sword like the big goron sword Link had in OoT.Making the large sword a replacement for the hammer(or the ball and chain by adding a chain 2 the hilt of the sword) would just up the coolness simply because its not realistic!

3.In games like soul calibur, each character has about 3 different stance. The regular stance, then 1,2 or 3 extra stances. Some moves can be used only from a particular stance and 1 stance can branch of into more than 1 possible attack. This will give the feeling of fighting as a real swordsman. The 1st pic I posted is a stance that leads to that characters' most powerful attack.Even when enemies recognise the stance, its really hard 2 dodge. The stance in the 2nd pic can branch off into 3 different attacks.

4.There are other melee weapons besides swords!Look at Devil May Cry,Dynasty Warriors,Ninja Gaiden or Bleach.Even if u insist on bladed weapons, there are so many different kinds!

5.Mix in some magic spells, please!Zelda has the atmoshere of epics like the Lord of the Rings but recently, the magic in Zelda has been reduced 2 only warping & magic weapons(gale boomerang).I can just start to imagine all the possibilties of spells controlled by wii motion plus.I mean, look what they were able to do with the paint brush in Okami.

6.Some might want a grapple button but I really don't care. It'd be a nice addition but its at the bottom of my personal list. The first 5 points I mentioned were in no particular order of preference.

Let's try 2 leave out other gameplay aspects as we discuss and focus only on combat.Your comment s& criticisms please!

Zelda has never been about the combat. I really don't want it turned into a linear action game. I'd much rather it stay an action-adventure with average combat, than it turn into a linear action game with excellent combat. Oh and before you say, it can stay action-adventure. Let me note something. Every SINGLE one of the games you mentioned is strictly an Action game. The reason why? It is very hard to excel in multiple areas like that, and it takes a lot of money and time to do as such. So you'll have to choose one or the other, and rarely have both.

To be honest, I cannot see a zelda game working where you are jumping doing flips and stuff while attacking like most ARPG and Action games have it as. I want combat to stay strictly grounded, and you could advance it from there. Wii Motion plus is a great idea because it allows for an extension to the combat without putting too much work or resources into it, or compromising the basis of the series.

Oh and there have been spells in Zelda games since Zelda II, so I don't see what the problem is there. They could always bring them back if they want.

Edit: One thing I do agree with is weapon variety though. Maybe an extra 3 or 4 would be nice.

It will never happen because they don't want to ruin the franchise like that. Zelda has already built itself up as a series that's recognizable for what it is. Most people won't stand such changes and I would be on of those who would stop playing Zelda if the game had such a dramatic turnaround. Not only that but Nintendo's image will be very badly tainted as they would be seen as the company that ruined one of the best franchises in gaming.

If it was a spin-off, then maybe, but even then I'd say no. Main Zelda's have to be oriented into the adventure genre, rather than the dinasty warriors senseless button mashing or fighting games like Soul Calibur. It's about exploration, interaction and simple but strategic combat. TP was a step in the wrong direction and they know it. If they stumble this time I will not play another Zelda game in my entire life.

Fullfilled Prophecies

To expand on my last post, I would like to say that Zelda would work better with something like this:

than this:

It is MUCH closer to WRPG's in design than either JRPGs or Action games. I would actually label WRPGs as Action-Adventure opposed to RPGs.

Mount and Blades combat system is awesome.

Bleach and Kenshin are great, but Zelda shouldn't be like them. Personally, I'm happy you're not in charge of the series.

I didn't ask for the bolded part.I don't want it 2 become an action adventure game. There's a reason why Zelda is my best game series, and not God of War or whatever.I'm  just saying that as you said,"Wii motion plus is a great idea bcuz it allows 4 an extension 2 the combat without putting too much work or resources into it,or compromising the basis of the series".I'm just saying that they shouldn't miss the chance M+ offers.I got bored with all the great moves in POP:Warrior within so I know more than 2 make combat the main focus,Majin-Tenshinhan.I actually want Zelda wii to be saturated with side quests like Majora's mask, but I really don't understand why they took out somethings.

About half of the things in my list were in previous Zelda games! When I fought dark link in OoT,I figured that since he mirrored my every attack,I'd use a weapon of a different length from the sword we both had in our hands.I used the big goron sword. My younger brother used the Hammer. My last brother just kept using Din's fire cuz he had the extended magic gauge. It felt so nice:come up with your own pattern!Notice I said that a grab utton wasn't neccessary.Thats cuz I want them to stick 2 the control layout that's worked so well b4.They can add every thing I asked for with just the wiimote, the A button, the lock-on button and the nunchuk!I'm not asking for a hack & slash mindlessly kinda game!I'm asking for a zelda where the baddies don't feel like punching bags & I have a great arsenal of moves to back up my adventuring & puzzle solving!

Well you didn't make yourself clear enough in the OP. From what I gathered from your post, you wanted a game that played like a fighter or Hack N Slash, something Zelda is far from being. I agree with everything in your second post. That is one of the reasons why Twilight Princess was a disappointment. It didn't have variety in it's combat, something that is almost necessary in Action-Adventure games imo. There are many things I would love to see implemented into the Zelda series. There are many I would love to see make a come back as well. Hopefully Nintendo does both with quite a few of them.

What console is dat bleach game on?It didn't seem nearly as nice as the 1 I have on PSP!And I heard Bleach Dark Soul(DS) is better than the PSP version.

Nothing should take any pointers from Bleach, ever. Especially something that already works, like the Zelda series.
