I would really want to see Sony calling this CEO bluff. I REALLY REALLY want him to go up tomorrow or next week and say MW2,GH ...etc will not be released on PS3 because I'm really interested in what choice of a career he is gonna have after this one.

Yes, because saving his company development costs in providing for the last place console is all lose for him...

This is a precarious position...  The DLC alone for CoD outsells Sony's exclusives.  Thus, without more content, they could conceivably sell more exclusives...  But this could prompt more developers to drop Sony.

could you tell me how can you explain to the shareholders the missing % in Profit when the yearly COD, GH are not released on the PS3 ?? in the business world if you cut a profit source you better have something as good or better to replace it

all this is a way to pressure sony to a price cut this is an empty thread I would bet my house(if I had one) if he ever gos throw with it

and BTW what the hell does Sony's games have to do with Act financial ??

They paid Sony $500 million...I think Sony would be in the bigger hurt locker...and I'm sure Activision would focus more on Wii projects.  I'm sure he's locking at EA Active on Wii selling like hotcakes, and thinking...hmmmm.....

doesn't Sony own the rights to the Spiderman movie games as well as James Bond games (I think they own all if not a large part of MGM) so most of that money could be those licenses fees because those games appeared on every machine with a Screen

yes! its the end of sONY!!

Sadly it might be true.

Sadly you actually believe what you just wrote.

A price cut for PS3 would be good but how about a price cut in Activision's games? Including MW2!!

Well, that's my giggle for tonight sorted.

And yes, even you would be sad if it happened.

problem is i doubt sne is breakeven on their hardware sales right now, and they clearly envisioned this hardware cycle to last much longer and for price points to remain a lot higher for a lot longer.  lowering prices helps them in the short-run on the top-line and for software tie-ins but only accelerates their hardware losses.  bobby kotick i think is just power tripping a little..  at most he probably does a few more exclusives with msft where they'll compensate him for that anyway.

i also doubt he's focusing on the wii.. aside from the guitar hero franchise, activision's strategy has been to focus on the hardcore gamers, and taking into account that these some of these games take 2+ years to develop now, its not so easy to decide suddenly to switch to developing games for the wii.

i also think ppl forget that a lot of their biz is non-console.. blizzard is only 27% of their revenue but 60% of their operating profit.. so clearly consoles are not his focus area right now

About the Wii developement, it wouldn't be "swiching", since they already develope games for it. In reality we'd be talking about ditching PS3 in favour of Wii, 360 and PC.
But what are this "hardcore" Activision-Blizzard is focusing on? Are they people who don't care about whether the game is good or not?

Good point about the financials, by the way. It gives some weight for the threat.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I think you are right gebx.

So what do you think activision will say when that happens?

"See we have so much power we can tell other companies what to do and they'll do it"

They do have that much power. What would happen to a console without Guitar Hero and Call of Duty this generation? Ruination comes to mind, at the very least, a destructive hit to library quality, hardware and software sales, brand recognition, and overall quality.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Kotich is a very smart CEO, but this comment will anger many PS3 fans. His statement may reflect the real situation, but it is not a smart move to state so publically. And like many forum members had said, it is only a matter of months before a PS3 price cut happen. So what does Kotick gain by jumping the gun now?

He can say it's because of him now that you're getting your PS3's cheaper?

And he'll be right. When Activision-Blizzard threatens to ruin your console, you listen. Fact.

Now, Sony might have had a price-cut planned before...but if they didn't, they are working on one now.

If activision left, others would follow...and the guys at Valve would have a field day roasting Sony.

LOL @ zen. It would never happen.

Yeah, I know, lol. I'm not saying it would...but you still listen to threats, even empty ones.

Should have just said "Fuck off" and be done with it...

Activision are hurting themselves if they do this... If they dump the PS3 then games like CoD WOULD see higher sales and profit on 360 and possibly the Wii, but the sales will most likely not equal the sales and profit of a CoD on PS360 and possibly the Wii. [I use the Wii lightly because only one cod's on the wii but 3 on PS360].

As for SONY, we're all aware of the damage they'd be doing to themselves if they cut the price.... higher sales and more losses on those sales... How many games need to sell for SONY to make up the losses of 1 80GB PS3 sold at 299?

Also... I thought Activision's PSP support was already pretty much dead???
