Forums - Sony - How is the PSP Go a megaton?

Paperdiego said:
we have known that the psp go was in development for a vary vary vary long time.

psp go is no megaton. this will only temporarily help the psp and deloplers.
i give it a month or so.

than the psp is back in the coffin.

sony dropped the ball on this.
the placemnt of the buttons is awkward, they are alienating thier entire base.
its looks fugly.

its renders all but 100 games that are launching with it useless.
its not even compatible with its own games... what was sony thinking.

they have shot themselves in the foot

A month or so... please this isn the second most ignorant post afther the one the topic creator just made. The PSPs dl library can be updated every freakin' week just like they are doing it now, I dont see why the entire library couldent go downloadable in matter of months ?

And topic creator? Nobody used UMDs? Are you f-in kidding me? They shipped already over 150 million games on UMDs alone I dont see how thats barely used? And what about the Japanese resurrection, or the fact that in the US there where oftenevery week ~ 4 games sold for a PSP ( lets say 50k PSPs and 200k UMDs)...

You have to get your fact straight before posting? Just because there are not as many UMDs sold as DS games that doesnt means that the market is dead ;)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

i dont really see why they launched this unless it will be a supremely high margin product it dose not really add anything new that could not have been done on current hardware, and frankly its an abomination of design compared to the current system.

I would be surprised if this takes off for more then a few months. and psp sales return to normal ...

however the games announced with it if they come out back to back to back about 4 to 6 weeks apart could level the field

The main difference is the 16GB FD and removal of UMD. This decreases batter drain, so it improves battery life and decreases cost, and it makes it 43% lighter

I hope sony stops to realese a new psp-upgrade every year. PSP-3000 launch was less then 8 months ago and they are already annoucing a new version. I do hope this isn't just another upgrade but a brand new console, we even don't know if we should buy a PSP now, maybe sony realeses another colors next week or make a model with built-in camera(really sarcastic face)

as i said nothing that could not have been done to the current psp.  and removal of the psp only benefits sony, making the hardware cheaper. where with a standard psp you would have the option of using a umd or using download games, unless they abandon the psp firmware upgrades which would be stupid.

or more simply this is a money garb upgrade, the whole thing is designed to produce higher margins.

16gb is nothing really pick that up for a few bucks if you know where to look or they could have just issued them with 16 gb stick dous in new units. ive forgoten whats in mine i think its 8 gig, though i got it while in shanghai and paid around 4 usd for it has worked fine for me so far.... and yes i have paid for all of my games upfront from real vendors... the mem stick dou is the shadiest thing i own for it

They make it smaller, and they will remove the whir of the UMD as well. However, they are keeping the existing PSP on the market, so people can still buy their games as UMDs likely. However, there are still a lot of details that we need to know, like what are we meant to do with our existing games

To be fair the change from the PSP-2000 to the PSP-3000 with extremely small (in fact i doubt most people would notice at all) and the PSP Go is a digital distribution only system so they are keeping the PSP-3000 on the market.

As for numbers it'll be the 4th PSP vs. 3rd DS / thats just how the portable market works.

If it is one then people sure have forgotten what's really a "megaton" is beacuse thi sure as hell isn't one

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

How is the PSP Go a megaton? Isn't it pretty much exactly what Nintendo just did with the DSi?

Both the PSP Go and the DSi have:

1: removed a legacy game slot that nobody really used (UMD for PSP, GBA for DS)

2: a focus on downloadable content

3: a focus on multimedia content (pictures for the DSi, improved movie-playing form factor for the PSP Go)

4: kept support for the legacy system by the manufacturer (DS Light/PSP 3000)

Now, I'm not saying Sony copied the DSi, I'm only saying the PSP Go is hardly a megaton that's going to destroy Nintendo this E3 and leave the rest of the game world in the dust.

A difference here, and why I will look to pass on the PSP Go, but went with the DSi, is that I can play my current DS games on my DSi.  I buy a PSP Go, I have to rebuy everything.  Flat out, this sucks.  The DSi gave me a larger screen also.  Now, if the PSP Go had a second analog stick, it would be worth considering.
