Sony and even ms first party efforts are much better than nintendos for the last year or two. They may not produce the same sales as nintendos products but quality is there...

Other than that the article is right...

Besides Gears of wars, Halo, Fable on the xbox360 and Killzone and........on the PS3 what else do they offer?

Nintendo on the other hand released Zelda, Mario, smash bros, fire emblem, metroid, new super mario bros and the mega succesful Mario kart wii and wii fit.

You can't deny that Nintendo is and always be the company with their strongest 1st party.

You are listing every nintendo published game in the last 2 years. You missed on xbox 360 PGR4 Forza 2 crackdown

Sony Motorstorm 1 & 2, Warhawk, Uncharted

Lot more variety is found at Ms and Sony than at nintendos first party efforts.

A lot more variety? If an action/adventure, platformer, fighter, srpg, first person shooter/adventure, 2D platformer, racer, and fitness sim isn't variety, than God help us all.

"But since ‘games industry’ is defined as everyone but the customers (i.e. those mouth breathing gamers who ‘contaminate’ E3 with their very presence!), what Nintendo says constantly sounds like madness to ‘games industry’ writers."

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I love malstrom.

I'm not sure if you own a Wii or not but, Nintendo has it covered when it comes to variety man, that's not the problem here, they just don't have solid franchises like Nintendo has.

See, but PGR took bundling to push it's sales and Forza is a strong game, but can't even follow in Mario Kart's shadow as far as sales go. Crackdown took a Halo 3 beta to push some units.

Nintendo games sell well on their own. As a matter of fact I believe the worst selling game in his list is Fire Emblem, but even though it was blasted with average to not-so-great ratings, it still has a cult-like following.

Variety at MS and Sony? You have your sports games, shooters, and the occasional sandbox special like GTA, Fallout.

Nintendo? Successful sandbox, racing, exercise, platformer, strategy, shooter/puzzle, and side scroller. That was just what Bob listed in his post! Sony and MS could not exist without 3rd parties, while Nintendo can stand tall and proud, and probably profit for quite a while just living off of Mario Kart's legs alone. (Irony realized, and ignored).

This.

Nintendo has first party everything covered. Quality, sales, variety, etc.

Some excerpts:

The mistake is that many writers, once they believe they have grasped the trends concerning the game industry, then turn around and apply those trends to Nintendo. Nintendo, we can all agree, does what is best for Nintendo. The game industry, to these writers, is not customers but some mystical abstraction of infinite developers, publishers, ad infinitum that float, like angels, on a cloud that separates them from the earthly bonds of the market. In their minds, it makes perfect sense that a developer’s opinion is seen as an oracle expressing the future of ‘The Industry’. What the customers say and do, well, what do they matter? According to these writers, customers are not members of the industry. And when reality occurs, that customers do control what publishers and developers make, seething anger erupts among the keyboard jockeys. “Nintendo is destroying gaming!” where, by every indication, it is the opposite.

...

Sony and Microsoft rely on third parties to create an install base with their consoles because both companies lack the first party studio strength to perform it themselves. In other words, relying on third party software to drive install base is considered ‘normal’ and ‘the future’. Nintendo, like Sega and Atari and Hudson, rely on first party software to drive the install base. Therefore, it is ‘concerning’, ‘problematic’ and eventually ‘doomed’.

...

If Nintendo titles top the sales charts, it is ‘concerning’, ‘problematic’, and Nintendo is ‘doomed’ because ‘only Nintendo titles sell on Nintendo.” If a third party game, on Nintendo’s platform, tops the charts, why that third party company is so amazing, so talented, so wonderful! If that third party game does not sell, it isn’t because it is a bad game, that the company has no talent, or anything like that. Why, it is Nintendo’s fault. Somehow.

Curiously, when a third party game on a Microsoft or Sony platform, like a Grand Theft Auto, tops the sales lists, it is because of the genius and incredible talent of Microsoft and Sony, not the third party itself. When a third party game does poorly on Microsoft or Sony platform, it is because of that third party.

Worth read. Check it out.

Didn't Malstrom have a series of "Wii is doomed" articles last year? Well, I guess people can learn.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
