Forums - Sales Discussion - The Offical August 2007 NPD Thread (data to be released 6:30pm 9/13/2007)

Prime 3 probably did 20k or so in Canada as well, so Vgchartz didn't over track it a whole lot in week one.

240k vs. 320k off the top of my head...Vgchartz is 33% higher than NPD or NPD is 25% lower than Vgc depending on how you compare it.

Overall good numbers. VGC was insanely close for DS, Wii, and PS2. X360 was low on VGC (I assume the typical 8%), and fairly off for PSP (understandably), and PS3.

Software seems REAL close to VGC numbers. Add the 10-ish precent for them, and it'd be very similar. The positioning of the software is real close as well.

As for Blue Dragon:

The closest comparible game on the NPD was Tiger Woods 08, which sold around 20k more according to NPD. Since it was at the bottom of the list, I assume BD is just a few more positions down.

I'm glad the X360 had a very noticable increase in sales - the X360 pulled PS3-type increases, despite only a $50 price drop on the main SKU. I really wonder what woulda happened if the X360 dropped $100......One can only imagine.

Again, kudos to VGC. These numbers are sooooooooo close to NPDs. Once NPD Canada is added, most everything will be within 10%. Hopefully ioi updates the X360 numbers, as the X360 sold about 30k more in August than previously thought.

high school musical DS... does vgchartz even track that?

the Wii is an epidemic.

Sounds like MS is doing better. Of course Nintendo is on cruise control until the holidays. Meanwhile Sony is still trying to get their groove back.

congratulations to vgchartz for getting the numbers so close. software numbers need a little bit of work, but overall very good.

the Wii is an epidemic.

360 doing really well since price drop.

Bioshock killing Metroid Prime.

All hardware went down except 360.

Big PS3 and PSP drops.

Madden PS3 did really well considering.

VG Chartz numbers for PS3 off again significantly.

With these numbers, going back to 600 dollars after the 60 gb run out will be suicide for Sony and back to the levels pre price drop and lower.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Soriku, NPD is US and Canada. This is their US figures.

But if July was any indication for August numbers, NPD is very close to Vgc for DS (probably adds 35k), Wii (adds maybe 30k), PS2 (20k), 360 (15k). PSP and PS3 were more off, but still within 20% I think if NPD Canada was 10k.

As much as I like what this site is doing, I am beginning to suspect that you are unable to actually track sales of some/most of the console brands (particularly PS3/PSP) from your sources. Given that you have PS3 sales of over/near 50k in September, I can imagine how the september NPD comparison will turn out to be...

The question remains whether NPD reports only those numbers they track without rounding up to 100% (No Amazon for example, which gave the PS3 an August push).

To be fair, the NPD numbers are just USA, and not Canadian numbers, of which, VGC tracks as well.

For Canada, add around 10% for each system. That'd put the PS3 a bit higher (around 145k), and PSP @ 165k. Not perfect and off, but still closer than your assuming.
