you do realise the PS3 is down 250,000 yoy and 360 is up almost 1,000,000 yoy

this is just one week in a very quiet month.

In his defense, PS3 has been the same price since at least November 2007 while the 360 is still seeing the effects of the major price drop just over half a year ago.

This year is almost an exact replica of last year with both consoles rolls reversed. The only difference is that the 360 isn't preforming as well as PS3 last year while the PS3 isn't preforming as badly as 360 did. It's also worth noting that while the PS3 did not have a price cut to compete with the 360 during the last holiday season, 360 DID have a price cut to compete with the PS3 during the holiday season of 07.

You're quite right that this week's sales (and last week's with the recent adjustments) should not be used to determine the course of this year's sales, but the fact remains that with the 360 at least half as expensive as the PS3 in every region, this really shouldn't be happening and the reality that it is shows significant evidence that the PS3 has a selling potential that is far above the 360's.

Wow I daydreamed that the PS3 would get within 10k of the 360 this week at best. It's within 6k :0

Ugh? how the 360 got 70k now? I mean, why? and PS3 numbers actually went up? trippy numbers.

if ps3 can track like this to 360, or as i stated earlier within 50k a week they dont need a price cut.

if i was sony i would ride out the year at £299

look how clever nintendo was with n64 and gamecube, they left the marketshare race and concentrated on profits and bringing great games to thier customers.

For SONY to concentrate on profits they have to not have a price cut until 2010 holidays to recoup all the loses.

Eight pages and no sign of Smeags? What the hell is going on?

In other news I can't believe the PS3 is dropping in sales and the fanboys are happy. This is the beginning of the slow time of year. I also doubt Easter is going to help the HD consoles too much. I think the DSi will be the big Easter gift followed by a Wii.

Actually I think Wii sales will cool down and stay in the 140-200k range mostly now in NA.

People are starting to realize they are in stock in most places now and don't need to rush to buy one as soon as they see one on a display ( I'm guessing the 'we have Wii' signs you see at some retailers will probably become less common too as this won't be big news anymore).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Someone post the official thread already, slackers.

Something just isn't right.

Nothing happened over the last week to justify a 20k drop for the 360 and a 2k rise for the PS3 in NA.  I expect that the PS3 will be adjusted down or the 360 will be adjusted up soon?

Really? Damn who would have thought a $100 price cut increases sales (:O) and keeping the price constant for over a year will decrease sales (:O) after the competiton had a huge price cut (:O).

Also good to see PSP on top WW over the PS3 and 360, long may that continue with the huge amount of titles releasing on that system as well as the new model later in the year (long story short a guy a GAF has not been wrong and said most of the specs in an OP were correct.)

you are right...there are reasons.

but so what?

It's not the fault of MS that the PS3 cant drop in price.

It means once the PS3 is $300 it will wipe the floor with 360 in terms of sales, that's what it means. Once it is that price the 360 can drop in price again however the price of the PS3 will allow many more to choose it and not just go for the cheaper option.

Either way it all went wrong for the PS3 this generation, at best it will only match the 360.

But in the other thread you called the change "amazing".  But it's not.  It's foreseeable, and based on price.  We know that we'd all look at things differently if the price HADN'T dropped and the games released for PS3 and 360 resulted in such a YoY change in the consoles' sales rates.  That might -- more appropriately -- be called "amazing."

Last weeks numbers were adjusted.

Both 360 & PS3 dropped 6-8K in NA this week.
