Sony can easily get away with keeping the price constant due to all the software coming, that will sell systems and provide boosts. Then when Sony are happy with my guess being during winter time they will drop the price of the console.
Very impressive how the PS3 continues to sell pretty well at it's price, question is if that is due to brand name or something else. Software is pretty good to say the least but then again so is the 360's software, baffling stuff. |
I don't get the brand name thingy.
nintendo and sega had the bigger brand name that didn't save them from selling terribly in the last 2 generations.
ofc the ps3 isn't selling well but for a third place and 400$ console this is pretty good for now.
so no it's not the brand name :)

Of course but Sony had much more success with the PS1 and PS2, those two completely wiped the floor with competition so the brand became extremely powerful. The PS3 was screwed when it was announced to be £425 however since then it has continued to sell close to 360 despite the 360 having practically the same software but costing much less. Perhaps the exclusive software is selling systems for the PS3 or the hardware being much better compared to the 360, I have no idea.
What I do know is that once the PS3 drops another $100 that puts the console at $300. 360 can come with a happy meal after that but the PS3 will be much more affordable and that is what matters as more and more will choose the PS3. PS3 still failed this generation comparative to the rest of the Playstation brand, it will not even reach PSP numbers I think.
