"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Sony fans will say PS1(not PSX) and Nintendo fans will say SNES.

Pretty much sums up the future of this thread.

Pixel Art can be fun.

tie ?

PSX had a lot more than you listed. It wins by a mile, I think. SNES really put down roots for the PSX RPGs, but the PSX's RPGs were the flowering tree, as it were.

Additionally, a fair number of the SNES RPGs you have listed are available as enhanced-version collections on the PSX. Not really a fair contest in that regard.

ps1, their final fantasy were not up to par with snes counterparts, but it had more new ip, than snes.

PS2 it just trumps everything

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

this. and he forgot ff8 and suikoden 2.

SNES on the strength of Earthbound alone.

It really depends on if you count PS ports from the SNES, SRPGs and whether or not you hold much against it that somehow the PS ports of the SNES RPGS are inferior.

Also where you classify games such as EVO. Platformer? Action RPG? etc.

Final Fantasy 4, 6, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound beat out anything PSX has to offer.

But 3 of those 4  can be found on PSX though in worse condition.  (Musics off and the loading times....)

So it makes it tough depending on you care more about the quality of a few handfull in which case SNES wins... or pure numer in which case PSX wins.

When it comes to SRPGs... it's much the same.

Though PSX i think gets an advantage in that it's the only system that has Tactics Ogre: LUCT in english.
