Forums - Nintendo - My First Reaction to RE5

I would obviously prefer the wii controls for RE5 to dual sticks, but I'm still not sure if I would want a downgraded port on my wii more than RE5 on HD. It would really depend on what all they lost. I mean RE4 on PS2 had fewer zombies, not just graphical downgrading and the PS2 is much closer in power to the GC than the Wii is to the PS3. If it ended up having waaay less zombies, losing entire set pieces, going back to turok style fog, or any of that crap I don't think it would be worth it. It's why I don't have even the slightest interest in Chop Till You drop. Sometimes porting down hurts the game waay too much to justify having the ability to point and shoot.

It's more about feel than actual speed. I feel the same way with RE5 as I did with the troika in GeOW 2. I just hated the movement, even when the sensitivity is adjusted. I hated, hated, hated the troika segments.

So the game is slower in aiming than the prior games. And has the handicap of not being able to use IR, but is stuck with analog.

And is supposed to have a shit ton more enemies on screen? Or did they go away from that and just pump out the graphics and forget about more numbers.

But if more enemies and slower aiming it seems like a shitty combonation

same here, after playing Call of Duty Wii and then playing MGS4 on Ps3, i see that wii-remote pointing is faster and easier than using the analog stick to shoot, and since RE games are selling that good on Wii, i think not making RE5 on Wii is stupid

haven't tried the demo, but the graphics seem cool, but a lot of games do so...

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Unfortunately for FishyJoe, and the rest of you, you are overplaying your hand a bit here. The disparity between the control schemes exists, certainly, but it isn't a significant issue for most gamers, and it's obvious that this conversation is really about greatness of the Wii controls, and not about the series as a whole.

Zen always speaks the truth

I agree with this part. The rest, not so much.

What else was there to disagree with? Please don't say anything Killzone 2 related.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Here's what I believe.

However, it is notable for bringing to the table a nice and easy method for dealing with clunky analog aiming found in all console shooters. Because the game intends for you to PAUSE then AIM, it is simple enough to take advantage of the inaccurate IR pointing device found on the Wii. Ehm, the "waggle" can be inacurate, but the pointer allows for pixel perfect aiming. You should know that.

RE5, unjustly, is only being released on HD consoles, and Wii owners seem to want to use this slight downgrade to the control scheme as an excuse to up-play the Wii control, Nope, not me, Fishy and a whole lot of other PSWii and Wii60 owners. Since we'll play the game anyhow the complaints are genuinly about the controls and not about an excuse to get the game to our only platform which are in theory, custom fitted to the game. Ironically, however, a large complaint about the Wii port is the IR controls actually made the game a tad too easy, and therefore, less suspenseful.

Unfortunately for FishyJoe, and the rest of you, you are overplaying your hand a bit here. Nope, RE4 was better on Wii than on GC. As a big RE fan I want it to be the best game possible. For ME that would be with Wii controls. RE:Wii was the Killzone 2 of the Wii. It proved, finally, that Wii controls/PS3 graphics, could be better than the competition given the right circumstances.

That said, RE4 was a fantastic, real AAA game, with or without IR, and one reason was its cutting edge graphics which RE5 would be forced to ignore were the game to appear on the Wii.

Resident Evil is Capcom's baby. They cherish no other series like it, and so we have been treated to a plethora of excellent main games, and possibly the best spinoff ever, Code Veronica. RE5 fans should just ignore most of the complaints of the mainstream Ehm, I'm definitely not a mainstream RE gamer. whom before RE4, could have cared less about the series, and realize that Capcom has yet to let them down. The game will at least be good. Yes, but could have been much better, even on the platforms it's currently on. Controls are too slow, which is amplified by RE4Wii, but even put against the GC game it's slow. Which is inexcusable seen the progress Gears and Dead Space made. And I'm not talking about the stop to shoot mechanism, I like that.

And @SHMUP: Yes, but even on "fastest" the aim speed is far below Gears and Dead Space. The restrictive gameplay is good, subpar execution is not.

Aw man, things are looking a bit stale for RE5.

I very much would want Wii controls in RE5. I would prefer it over the current version even if the Wii graphics were downgraded to RE4 level.

Nevertheless I'm sure I'll enjoy RE5. But in this discussion I really only want to know what people with both a Wii and a PS3/360 that have played RE4 Wii and the RE5 demo think about this.

But I'm pretty sure most people that played RE4Wii would prefer that control scheme, and controls are for me more important than anything else in a game.

I've been playing the Demo recently, and I've got to say that the lack of Wii controls really does feel like a step back. I didn't notice much difference between aiming speed in RE4 and RE5, but then, that's not really something I was putting much focus on. What I was really disapointed in was what seemed like a lack of enemies on screen at any given time. At most I remember seeing 6-7 with an average of about 3-4. After the old E3 trailer I was expecting to be completely swarmed barely able to keep them at bay, but never got that from the demo. Maybe they didn't show any really intense parts in the demo, but right now I'm not really sure why it couldn't be done on the Wii.

On the positive side I'm really excited for the co-op mode. That's the biggest draw for me right now.
