Forums - Microsoft - "Bioshock 2 possibly a timed exclusive?"

Err... I think the time for delayed PS3 games is pretty much over. Obviously some games this year did (AITD, and some others), but to give such a broad "2009" release window, it can't have anything to do with development, or we would already have a date pinned down.

OT:

Probably not anything much, it could be a Wii version, or they could decide not to have it come out on PC at the same time.

interesting...that could be it.

Should they include a PC version in the lineup when PC only counts for 3% year revenue, and the X360 and PS3 count 39% and 34% year revenue respectively?

i think simultaneous release on X360/PS3 and later release for PC - like GTA4

If Bioshock is indeed exclusive or Timed exclusive, then Microsoft should have its Big three again to compete with Sony exclusive.

In 2007 it is Bioshock, Halo 3, and Mass Effect

In 2008 it is Gears 2, Fable 2, and L4D

In 2009 it might be Halo ODST, Bioshock 2, and any combination of Forza 3, Mass Effect 2, Aln Wake, and/or Killer Instinct 3(if indeed this game is true).

If all 6 of them are coming out in the fall, then if is OMFG. That lineup will certainly destroy or match anything the PS3 or Wii (well maybe not the Wii) has to offered.

Agreed?

No. Especially not if Trico releases in 2009 because Shadow of the Colossus > Any game ever created (other than some of the MGS games, God of War II and BioShock. Oh, damn.)

I don't think Halo 3: ODST is really a big hitter, it's a short budget game, along the lines of *flameshield* Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty.

I say Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake and Halo Wars will be the 360's Big Three next year. While the PS3's big three will be God of War III, Killzone 2, and Trico, Heavy Rain or GT5. Or Uncharted 2.

Or the next Ratchet. Or InFamous.....

^I suppose I could include inFamous, but the next Ratchet doesn't technically exist yet and is a notch down from God of War III and Killzone 2, I think.

It will be wise for the games to be 360 exclusive.
just look at the 360 install base, holy shit compare with ps3.

Mhm, great profit for developers!

Hmmm ... Kitler posted a vid to Bioshock 2 in the other thread, and it was on the PS3 version of the game - but - no PS3 logo on it. I know the main version of the trailer shows the 360 logo on it.

Or Take-two needs to launch the game before christmas but isn't sure they'll have the PS3 port done in time.

Interesting thread. Not totally sure what to make of it.

I have thought about it myself and figured that PS3 sales were probably less because of the PS360 owners buying it on 360 first. Then again said people who also have PCs could have picked it up for PC and not bought the PS3 version at all.

The game had the impact of a sleeper hit (not totally, but much more in comparrison to whats say Call of Duty) it will be interesting to see what the hype does to the sales of the sequel.

It is because of this factor that I think Exclusivity (Time) will be more important this time around than last time. Enthusiast will want to play 2 because they've been sucked in now, and are not just curious. Also for me this Title (not solely, but was a big factor) pretty much sold me an XBOX360 to begin with, B2 will definatly be a 1st dayer No Question! SO in closing if it is 360 Exclusive through time, I see low sales for the PS3 version when it comes out. PS3 onlies will probably invest in the PC version.

Going multiplatform will benefit the publishers better.

Here's an example:

Gears of War 2 (360 exclusive): 3.77M to date

Call of Duty: World at War (Combined): 3.68M(360) + 2.12M(PS3) to date

Unless Microsoft will pay off the (potential) missed profits of 2 million copies (to date), multiplatform is where the money is. Also makes both camps happy. Win-win, right?

Don't forget that developing for both plateform has a cost, same thing for distributing it

Even if GOW2 has sell less than CODWAW, it might still generate more benefits.

I don't think MS actually gives money to the developers (this is stupid)... more like proposing free royalties for a defined period I suppose ...

The original Biohsock is a masterpiece, it doesn't get old like some people would pretend here... I can't believe PS3 owners denied it... 0,26 mil is a shitty score for such a blockbuster... shame on you guys...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
