Last week Sony stated it has sold 4,48 million worldwide.
And that's no shipping amount, but they state they have sold this number.

So why do you and VGChartz stick with <4.0 million?

For heavens sakes...

I think we need a policy to deal with "newbies" who join then immediately chime in with this brilliance...

...

Something else *everyone* seemed to miss but was stated in the Sony financial statement:

The way that Sony tracks sales will only change from next quarter. The figures for the current quarter still use the old accounting method. So we haven't even seen the changes yet.

No, it starts from Q1 2007 (April, May and June). The following thread should clear things up, and brings up some new information on PS3 production, shipments and forecasts too:

Sorry guys, but the "Starter Pack" was not available in all European country's. In Germany today its the first day on amazon. (The price was lowered last week to 574 €, but didn't help in sales much (Rank #144 in games).

Starter Pack seems to help a little (#11 in games on Amazon.de WII is #15). Amazon.de is not the best but a alright indicator in Germany. (The top 100 list is surprisingly near the sell overall sale charts).

Expect to drop back down under #25 by tomorrow.

Eh, I wouldn't trust Amazon rankings as far as how well a system is selling. There are very big differences in the people who shop online and people who don't. Trust me i've helped on a research study on that sort of thing.

I say they make it.

Well, i read a lot of heise.de (Best IT site in germany) stating in Germany thats a bit different that the states (more older people shop online %wise here that the us for example). And also i said "indicator". Amazon changes the top list every hour and i truly can't look every hour, but the eyeball averaged ranking seems ok. In matter of "What games are sold more" and "What hardware is sold more" it's a good indicator. If you take out preorderd games and look at the overall ranking it matches quite well the official charts.

The hardware part seems to fit also. So amazon.de is a good indicator (WII is above PS3 is above XBox 360), amazon.com however is, at least after my experience, NOT. After looking at the charts of amazon.de i say the Starter Pack helps the PS3 sellswise in Germany. So there will be more PS3 (and ps3 games) moved this week. But it will definitly not help to crack the WII (its the first day in Germany, and i expect the ps3 to fall behind by tomorrow) .  All i say is: there is a boost but not a really big one. 25% tops this week averaged.

The Starter Pack is significantly moving systems here .It is something that can be easily perceived .You go to a store and some people are picking up the PS3 ,the PS3 forums are flooded with "i got one !" posts ....expecting the "Others " sales to remain at 28K as last week (as Libellule ) or to slighty increase 1-2K units isnt very realistic .

Maybe that's the case in Spain, but not necessarily everywhere in Europe. In Denmark, the starter pack was accompanied by a price drop, and the starter pack is also available in Norway and Sweden. Despite all of that, there hasn't been a single week in the past month during which the PS3 outsold the 360 in Scandinavia...

Your posts always sound very optimistic because you forget that Europe is not just Spain.

No not much, the new bundle in europe with the 2 games and extra controller, and the bundle in japan should increase sales in those two areas, last week it was at 3.68m

Now its at 3.93m

I expect it to be around 4.03m when "all" the numbers are in.
