Resistance: Fall of Man - Checked off the list

A FPS as a system seller for Japan? I thought the Japanese are more into RPGs like Final Fantasy
and White Knight story and Resistance is more a system seller for Europe and the US....

IMO Resistance Fall of Man peformed rather well for Japan, at least it considerably outperformed Gears of War for the XBox 360. Resistance sold about 129K and Gears about 66K.

I was talking about PS3 World Wide but I get where you're comming from.

Is it likely that games can 'surge' back up again.

Lets say that the new Final Fantasy (lost count) game DOES sell millions of PS3s, and the PS3 software goes up massively. Can games like Gundam Mosou and HSG5 magically sell hundreds of thousands more units.

More importantly, would VGC still track these games?

Motorstorm - Checked off the list

Virtua Fighter 5 - Checked off the list

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - Checked off the list

Hot Shots Golf 5 - Checked off the list

So what system savior is next?

Gballzack- Checked off the list

Akhmed Tepisch- Checked off the list

LeroyBrown- Status Undetermined.

So what is the next account that will be made on this quest of trolling?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Pretty good for a PS3 game certainly but not that great for a major non-system specific game. We'll have to wait and see what the results are over the next few weeks before we can say whether this game was successful or not. It could be pushing a few systems, who knows, or it could be selling quickly to current PS3 owners with nothing to play and thus have very short legs. Time will tell how well it does, all we can tell right now is it isn't the PS3 savior Sony fanboys believed it would be.

Still having trouble understanding the role of initial base in determining big increases and small ones I see. A 50% increase is a major improvement if it is the DS or Wii but not for the PS3 and 360. With small bases the normal practise is to eschew total reliance on % increase due to the outsized role noise and minor shifts play at low levels (admittedly this is a far bigger issue for the 360 than the PS3 in Japan).

As an example, if GM made $100 million one year and $200 million the next then by your % analysis GM had a "major increase". However, for a company with $150-200 billion in annual sales only the GM PR spinmeisters would make such a claim. For a company that sold 300-400k systems on average a month for the last 12 years in Japan to go from 35k to 55k is not exactly impressive. It is good and moving in the right direction but it isn't anything to popping champagne corks over.

They would track these games it they charted.

It's entirely possible that those games could chart, if still available new @ retailers. If not, they'd be kinda screwed.

Dead Rising for X360 is a good example. DR took advantage of Trusty Bell week for the X360, and dropped it's Best Price/Platinum edition that week. The result? 5,000 units sold that week, and has garnered ~ 10k units since then. Likewise, Blue Dragon got a big boost for a full-priced game, and sold around 5k units since TB launched.

So it's entirely possible that games like Gundam Mousou and HSG5 could chart in the top 50 (but not much more), when new uber-games come out.

This week will be real telling - lets see how Gundam Mousou does if HSG5 moves alot (40k) of PS3s. It could see ~5k this week. Certainly not bad for a game that sells ~1.5k a week now.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

150k games sold in japan for the first day on the ps3 is unbelieveble considering software sales have been on the low end for the ps3 in japan. All I want to see is how much the hardware sales went up for the ps3 this week in japan.

I think you must be very selective with regard to PS3 (/Sony) fans you choose! Most of the time I read comments on how Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are the major PS3 corkers for Japan, not Hot Shot Golf. Actually I only recently learned about this game, but it looks very nice judging from trailers.

On the other hand Blue Dragon was very often put forth by XBox 360 fans as the savior of the platform in Japan.
That was supposed to be the major kickstarter for the platform and although it's the XBox 360's best sold game
for Japan its first week sales were far below the 150K suggested here. According to VGChartz data it was only
83K for its first week.

Look back a few weeks in these threads.  Hot Shots Golf was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread, the all-out savior of the PS3.  It's far from unsavable, but HSG didn't do much more than give a little push.

Well if there is nothing else to buy for a system I'm not surprised a lot buy it but that's no good if sales drop 75% on week 2.
