Forums - Website Topics - What can we do to improve VG Chartz?

Sheesh Tetsuya...we don't want you gone...

I think we're good on moderators right now.

We've got users with 1000+ posts, and are definitely level-headed, they'd probably make good mods...they're just not...because not everybody needs to be a mod. It's possible to be a great contributing member and not have to moderate...in fact, that'd likely make it much easier to debate, because you don't have to worry about things as much when you're a normal user.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Around the Network

Anyway, a more effective banning system would help things a lot...

Editing thread titles too, that's definitely needed.

Also, for mods, when a thread is locked, I have the option to click "edit" on posts that already exist in a thread...but it just doesn't do anything...I need to unlock the thread if I want to edit a certain post...that could use some fixing.

Anyway...those are more specific problems...I'll try thinking of some general ways to improve the site.

just ban me...i want to..close this account....ban me

Switching the forum to something like phpbb would be great. Reasons are: much improved search, recent posts lists, timezones, thread layout, ignoring users, user rating, etc, etc, etc... All the useful stuff that would take a lot of time and effort to implement yourself. Integration and customization is relatively easy, though I don't know about moving the old content.

Smaller changes... I'd like to see more stats for games' user scores (histograms like on IMDB, piecharts as on Gamespot - the sky is the limit). Integrating the sales, news and game sections' comments into the forum (as special threads), I think would be better too... I also don't like the background colors on the new pie charts, your light and gray-blueish theme backgrounds are much prettier. Finally I really don't like how some adds seem to be inside people's signatures. I nearly reported those as spammers when they first showed up. Moving them to bellow the "edit/reply/quote/report" buttons would be much better!

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

Going to start saying this on every how can we fix this site thread: give us the option not to use Rich Text Reply when editing or quoting or let us just turn off the auto formatting!

QFT and Highlighted for effect.

The sales in the front of the page, it should look a little more how should I say, futuristic, classsy not so plain and dull. Banned Ip is needed as well. Also take the white of the sales it misses it up and I guess you edited it thanks that was fast just while I was typing this. Also the menu or banner thind wer you click home and forum and all that other stuff make it look more futuristic, this site looks good but a lil plain,(just like the myspace, hehe no offense)

show off...shouldve private message him

My suggestions:

Make it clear which regions / countries are hard to track. Mention why PS2 data is often added afterwards compared to other sales data if this happens.

Mention sell through sales data from Sony's tracking, Japanese trackers, Chart Track and NPD for comparison of the supplied data in the charts.

Make auto formatted messages a selectable option.

Moderation, act harder against personal attacks (create terms of usage / guide page). But stay open towards criticism and difference of opinions.

Maybe add a special features section, maybe including (staff-user submitted) feature articles such as interviews, reports, tutorials, staff editorials. Exclusive content to attract new visitors due to news coverage from other websites.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

nothin leave it the way it is...your not missing a damn thing...lol
