Forums - PC Discussion - OK you PC guys, I just don't get why mouse/keyboard FPS is such a big deal.

Lastly before I read the authors post I was going to bring up ut3 mouse and keyboard against controller and try playing fatality and see what happens or we should have mouse and keyboard guy against controller guy in a tournament and see what happens. then I read what he wrote and thats not what this thread is about.

I don't particularly care for the accuracy of the mouse or the speed. I love Dual shock vibration and I don't really like using the keyboard because my fingers get stiff in the winter because of the cold. So therefore for me gamepad >>>> Keyboard/mouse.

I like both, I just prefer the gamepad. They've improved shooter controls immensely this generation, its great.

Tease.

Now that jumping puzzles are a thing of the past for the FPS genre I'd have to say that aiming accuracy is far more important that movement accuracy.

The truth is taht if you get a really good pc player of CoD4 for example and the same for console and put them both to play in the pc and console, the pc guy would only stand a chance in pc, while the console guy could win on both plataforms. That would be because is easier to get to pc gamming than to the console one. There migth be some exceptions, but that would work on 80-90% of the time. The console guy would take 2 or 3 matches to get used to the controls and then would be fair game. The pc guy would get pwned every time he played in the console.

I love claims like these, it sounds so controversial and yet is probably just trolling.  First of all work on your spelling, it sounds like you're playing starcraft with a bunch of korean morons going gogogogogoooogogogggo.   Second that just means it's harder to play using the console analog stick, it takes more time to learn to balance the analog controls as opposed to the easier time to digital move and precisely aim.  Third if the console-controller guy and the keyboard-mouse-guy fought head on the console guy would just cry and run home to watch some hard earned porn.  Which might not really be far from the truth.

Oookey. First, is not trolling. I like console gaming and pc gaming. I´ve been doing both since I was a kid. When I got my ps2, I got MoH Vanguard. Didn´t like the gameplay, but I thought was just that tilte, since everyone was so happy playing FPS in consoles. Then I got my Ps3 along with Turok, no comments on that. At last, I ´ve tried the demo of Bad Company, another disapointment. My feelings are that I can´t aim fast and accuratelly enough, cause every time I past the target it takes forever for the aiming to get back. Like was said here already, there´s a good reason why there´s assisted aiming on consoles and not in the PC.

My point is that the aiming is a lot easier to get on PC, therefore a console guy that was familiar with the game in the first place, would take no time to get familiar with the Keyboard and mouse scheme. But that´s just logic thinking, wich usually can´t be aplied in real life, unfortunately. I also said that would be on the average, not one or two cases.

@ Bringbackcromo I was supporting pc FPS over console FPS, and yes 2-3 games is a overstatement, but it should be a small amount of matches.

I'm not saying this to be an ass, but you just suck. It's is, by far, the best control method for FPS. The only thing that comes close is the Wii controls.

ARGH! WTF is wrong with people!

OP isn't asking about AIMING, he's asking about MOVING!

Why is it every F***ING time this conversation comes up you have every F***ing PC whore talking about how much more accurate the mouse is when what the OP is asking about is the KEYBOARD!?

All of these amazing things people are showing is all attached to AIM. MOUSE, great, the OP LOVES the mouse, I F***ING LOVE THE GODD*** MOUSE, that's why I LOVE the F***ING Wiimote so GODD*** much. Quit making assumptions about how we apparently suck cause we're used to aiming by moving, I aim by F***ING AIMING AT IT.

WE'RE TALKING ABOUT MOVEMENT, and I have YET to see someone actually come up with a decent argument for the way it's handled on a KEYBOARD vs a JOYSTICK/ANALOG.

I don't CARE if aiming is more important than movement, it doesn't change the fact that the KEYBOARD SUCKS A** AT IT.

"So and So PC player would beat soandso console player" well, no S***, sherlock. The OP and I both already have already expressed the fact that analog sucks for AIMING, but since the OP wasn't asking about AIMING, lets start this scenario over again:
Lets start with two gamers who are both PC, but they are playing a game that supports Analog joystick for movement. One gamer is straight Keyboard+Mouse. The other gamer uses mouse + PS2 controller in opposite hand (this setup gives access to analog stick, 2 shoulder buttons, 1 analog button and 4 dpad buttons, the select or start button, and 1 of the opposite shoulder buttons when hit against the knee) and he's practiced with this setup just as long as the other gamer has done with keyboard and mouse. Other than the controls, they are both equally skilled.
NOW tell me who has the advantage. I'm laying my money on the guy with analog movement.

The only guy in this thread that actually attempted to address movement in any MEANINGFUL manner was the one guy who said "I can cross 2 pixel wide platform using keyboard and mouse but I'd suck if I was using analog" except that really isn't accurate because that's actually attached to the AIM again. Once you get lined up with the platform, you just press forward, you can't go any direction BUT forward. I don't see how that's any different from those people complaining about analog sticks using auto aim. It's just this is kind of an "automove"

*pants* okay, actually, I feel a lot better now that I got that off my chest. Carry about, and whatever

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods
Games I want: (Wii)Mario Kart, Okami, Bully, Conduit,  No More Heroes 2 (GC) Eternal Darkness, Killer7, (PS2) Ico, God of War1&2, Legacy of Kain: SR2&Defiance

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

I prefer it with a console controller [not the wii], yes it's less accurate aiming but sometimes PC FPS just feel so much easier... which I don't like......

4 ≈ One

I'll put it bluntly, you suck, practice more and lay off the simple, baby FPSes on the consoles. Not once have I ever fallen off a ledge using mouse and keyboard, with the only exceptions being when sniping (UT2004 took care of that with crouch). If you learn how to use a mouse for aiming and moving then there is no problem. Your problem seems to be the fact that you are solely using the keyboard to move when you need to make little adjustments with your mouse.

My UT2004's clan server is an zoom insta-gib (hit-scan one shot kill) turbo(33% increased speed) server and I have to say that a controller can't come within even a fraction of the capabilities of a mouse and keyboard when you know how to use them. Have you noticed that console FPS games have to be slowed down? This is because the controller's can't handle quick, fast, precise movements the way a KBD + Mouse can. UT3 on the PS3 is 33% slower than the PC version and Master Chief in Halo feels like he's moving at the speed of a 90-year-old with Parkinson's'. How am I supposed to get my adrenaline going with slow games like that? Also what's up with the auto-aim? Auto-aim of any sort automatically nullifies any claim to skill.

For the record, I have yet to find a FPS on a console that is better than most PC FPSes.

@vlad
Too true. When i first played Halo, i thought this must be a joke, or maybe i could increase the speed like in classic UT.
Also agree about the movement bit. Slight adjustments need to be made by the mouse for precise movements, but that comes with a little practice, i guess.

I don't know how familair you are with PC FPS games but the mouse is half the MOVEMENT in the game. You aim in the directoin and press WASD accordingly. You have to AIM to move in PC games. You want to not drop off a ledge? Then stop pressing the goddamn button at the right time. That's why we say you all suck, all it takes is releasing a buton at the right time and you won't drop off edges. There is no reason to be walking in ANY FPS game, and I mean ANY. If you are walking or you are going at anything  other than max speed then you are basically a walking Headshot waiting to happen.

You complain about only being able to move forward? What's gonna happen on that 2 pixel wide thing if you shift yoru view to the side ever so slightly and still try to walk it using your analog movement? You will automatically fail is what.

I also fail to see why it's like auto-aim. Auto aim masks noobs meanwhile being able to move correctly takes skill.
