Forums - PC Discussion - OK you PC guys, I just don't get why mouse/keyboard FPS is such a big deal.

The truth is taht if you get a really good pc player of CoD4 for example and the same for console and put them both to play in the pc and console, the pc guy would only stand a chance in pc, while the console guy could win on both plataforms. That would be because is easier to get to pc gamming than to the console one. There migth be some exceptions, but that would work on 80-90% of the time. The console guy would take 2 or 3 matches to get used to the controls and then would be fair game. The pc guy would get pwned every time he played in the console.

I love claims like these, it sounds so controversial and yet is probably just trolling.  First of all work on your spelling, it sounds like you're playing starcraft with a bunch of korean morons going gogogogogoooogogogggo.   Second that just means it's harder to play using the console analog stick, it takes more time to learn to balance the analog controls as opposed to the easier time to digital move and precisely aim.  Third if the console-controller guy and the keyboard-mouse-guy fought head on the console guy would just cry and run home to watch some hard earned porn.  Which might not really be far from the truth.

Admittedly, I don't game much on my PC.  I only play the occasional Medal of Honor and the original Half-Life.  I was just playing some Half-Life right before I typed this and after my zillionth time falling off of a narrow cliff ledge, I thought I'd bring this up.  I understand why you love the accuracy of aiming with the mouse, but what I don't understand is how you tolerate using the keyboard for movement.  You are limited to a digital (not analog) input.  I like the precise movement that an analog stick gives me.  Using the keyboard feels like I might as well be using a D-pad.  It seems like you PC guys taking 2 steps forward and 2 steps back.  Increased firing accuracy at the expense of decreased movement accuracy.  What are some tips/tricks/pointers to get around this problem?

You have an extremely limited movement speed in FPS games so your argument makes no sense.  If you need to move a tiny amount, tap the button.   On the other hand, you can aim as quickly as you want to with a mouse -- you can turn 180 degrees and stop on a pixel if you want, something that is impossible by any measure in Halo 3.

I've not once ran into a situation where I wished movement was more precise in PC gaming.  But whenever I play any FPS game on my 360 precise aiming is simply not an option.  Why do you think halo 3 aims for you?

You come from console gaming, so you probably move to aim.  I see it all of the time even among halo players -- their fine aiming is based on movements rather than actually aiming.  If they're just slightly to the right of someone, they walk tot the left and shoot them rather than aiming to the left.  This is a very weak technique and it would never work against PC gamers who are dodging you with movements while aiming as quickly and accurately as they want.

this is a very good argument

Yea because move to aim becomes move and aim. Analog sticks feel like you have to jerk the crosshairs around to try and hit somebody while you can actually aim at them with a mouse while moving around is mainly trying to throw them off while you try and get hits.

*edit* Wow, no idea how I double posted.

Sounds like you're just not used to PC-games, to be honest.

@aavidbacon
Was that a supposed to be a pro-Console statement?
Cause what you just said shows that the Keyboard-mouse control is way more intuitive than Controller
But still, it'll take more than 2-3 games, so that was an overstatement.

Keyboard and mouse are a synergic team. While the keyboard sucks for movement on its own right, combine it with the mouse and you have even more accurate movement than with an analog stick. At least, you have to learn to use it well. The learning curve for mouse+keyboard (if you haven't played it before) is higher than the dual analog setup, I think.

I think the whole event is retarded, but just focus on the gameplay. Can that be done with dual analogs? ;)

The BuShA owns all!

MS made a customizable USB sidewinder stradegy commander with tons of programable buttons and mouse like movement push forward backwards sideways.

Also Zboard has a gaming keyboard with large buttons and tons of gaming presets

I have the interchangable keyboard

my problem is searching for a needed button on the keyboard! not the analog digital input movement. trying to hit crouch or grenade I like being able to customize my layout which Iam sure everyone likes that option also.
