I think that SA will remain the quickest selling game to 10m, apart from if another full GTA game is released this gen, and given that IV took 4 years, I am not certain that they will make another one, especially while they are working on the DLC

There's a difference between a userbase of 70+ Mil PS2 and a userbase of 20 Mil PS3.

 

No, not really. Well, of course there is, but in a way it isn't.

Ps3's total software is going to be far, far lower than the Ps2's. What seems to happen though, is for the best selling games to sell equally on a low userbase (Ps3), as they did on large last gen. The reason for this, is that the quantity of good, quality games is lower this generation. Hence why 2 of the 3 main platforms are having relatively small libraries.

So I think it equals it out.

The Ps3 gets half the userbase, but also gets less than half the competition. This means high profile games are likely to sell almost equal to previous generations.

I also stated that I believe GT5 will outsell GT4, so your last sentence makes to sense whatsoever with the quote you had.

There's also a good reason GT4 Prologue didn't sell too well. There was already a GT out. Buy a full GT, that's now decreased in price, or a "demo" for the same price? The choice is obvious. This means that GT4:P sales were all from people who owned 3.

 Gran Turismo still sells. The number you have in your link is a shipped figure. As the title still sells ~ 3K each week, it is likely that there are still at least 100K in the stores.

So I stand by my statement. Your source isn't precise for determining whether it has sold 10M or not (yet).

Hey! wake up! GT5 cannot sell 10Mil. Even GTAIV, the most popular franchise, far more popular than GT, didn't sell 5 Mil yet. Why a game less popular can sell 2 times more??? It doesnt make sense and I think everybody who believe it will sell 10 Mil believe also PS3 will sell 100 Mil units and that won't happen. Sorry!

I doubt that GT 5 will pass the 10 million mark. All the big franchises, despite having the "wow" factor of better gfx etc, had pale sales in comparison to the PS2 era. The market is more diversified so i would expect GT 5 to end on 8 million copies sold, if not less.



Huh. Who would've thought that beggining anew in my real life would coincide with starting anew on vgchartz?

Any day now, the dollar will be worth less than 2 zloty......any day now.....and my life savings will be in total jepordy ;(.

9.50 is near.

Also, Gran Turismo 3 is almost 15mln. Some of it sold purely on the factor of "Wow! more realistic graphics on a more powerful console!"

I'm pretty darn sure GT5 will do 10 mln.

Sure, yeah, that makes sense.

You realize, in order to pull that off, every two out of three PS3 owners would have to buy it. I know three right now that all would pass it up.
