Forums - General Discussion - Nancy Pelosi needs to be fired.

I have long thought that we should mount a movement from the public, to force all current congressmen/women and senators to step down at least for a cycle or two of votes.

This will remove all incumbents and will still allow the good ones a chance at getting back in if the people so choose.

However, unless all members of Congress, their staff, and any one else with connections to or between currently elected officials are removed, we won't get far.

The lobbyists can be kept at bay for a short while, since they would have little to no connections with the new members, and we could have real reform.

However this is only a pipe dream at this time. Maybe someone(s) influential outside of elected office can mount this effort and get people to support it. I am thinking Gingrich (note, from my view a great choice, but not too many others will agree with me) and a prominent reform democrat maybe Zell Miller.

Opinions on this? Be kind.

I am all for Congressional term limits. I think your plan is too much. Having a new house every single cycle would slow things down. Think 8 years (4 terms) for Congress 12 years (2 terms) for Senate. You the only problem is that there are some senators that deserve to be around forever, Like Sen. McCain. So I would take part of your plan and say that once you have sat out for a full cycle you can run again.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I am not for term limits. It violates a person's freedom. People should be able to vote for whomever they want. She is silly to blame this on Bush. Every member of congress who did not move to abolish the Fed is responsible for this.

Nancy Pelosi lies more than most politicians, and that's saying something. She is a bitter, horrid woman who should be nowhere near a position of authority and responsibility, as demonstrated by her childish speech on the House floor and her even more childish remarks in her press conference after the vote. She is a disgrace and a symbol for the partisanship-first crowd.

Your blaming the Dems for this when 66% of the Repubs voted against it? Are you that much of a Republican shill?

This is the largest, most absurd red herring I've ever seen. Whoever blames this on that speech should be fired.

Um. I think the main point this thread was pointing out the fact that she was being completly obsessive, before a very important vote. She wanted to make sure EVERYONE knew it was not her fault, that it was GWB. She can even control her own party, was it like 90 of her own party voted against it? She is a terrible leader.

Using that logic, then Bush and McCain are far worse leaders as they could only deliver 33% of their parties votes.

I agree that she is an idiot for making the speech.  But it is even more idiot to somehow think that affected the vote.  Both sides are playing politics here.

Pretty sure it's been said already, but I'll say it again. No she shouldn't have said that, but if any republicans changed their mind because of it, they are the assholes. A speech doesn't make any difference, votes do. And if they screwed over the DOW because they had their feelings hurt then I'm not blaming Pelosi.

I don't mean to come on rude, but asking for an opinion and to be nice is an oxymoron on this site.

OT: That was really rude of Pelosi on her part. And your idea seemes good to me.

These people come up for reelection in 6 weeks. This bill is not wanted by a very large percentage of the population. Just about every member of the house wants to vote no. The only reason to vote yes, is because both republicans and democrats from congress (who are not being reelected any time soon) are pressuring them. The president is pressuring them.

Everything that is in there best interests, and the best interests of there constituents says to vote no. The Republican Senate did everything they could to convince the Republican House to vote for this bill (and the Republican Senate thought they had the votes).

So you have all these forces pulling you each way, trying to get a bipartisan vote through the house, and then the leader of the opposing party gets up and says this bill will pass, the time of your party is over, you are the reason for this problem, and I am here to fix it (when in realty, if you want to point fingers, the democrats had probably more to do with this then anyone)...

it makes it very easy to pick how you are going to align your conflicted self.

if bush and cheney were to die...then she would be president right? thats a scary thought....

Laughable.

Nothing compared to the thought of Sarah Palin becoming president, now that really is scary.

Not really, Palin is the best one for the job. She never went past being a governer so she didn't turn away from the people and turn to the money that house members and the senate make. She has a better understanding of how the common citizen lives versus McCain, Obama, and Biden. If she became president she would basically help the common man instead of hurt them like the other three would.

I don't know about that. Didn't we just do that the last 8 years?... She is a little to religious for me. My choices for Prez (of my options) would be in order:

  • McCain
  • Obama
  • Move to another country
  • Palin
  • Biden
As you can see, it makes it hard for me to vote, as it's a gamble. Do I vote for the really old guy that might leave the most unqualified individual in history as our president, or the guy who in reality will never do the things he says he will do (thus being less destructive).

Obama promises the world, and will never be able to deliver, so he socialist views are not really that scary to me. You have to have money to spend it, and we don't have any :p

If you are so torn between the two, you should remember that there are other candidates aside from McBama.
