luinil said: I have long thought that we should mount a movement from the public, to force all current congressmen/women and senators to step down at least for a cycle or two of votes. This will remove all incumbents and will still allow the good ones a chance at getting back in if the people so choose. However, unless all members of Congress, their staff, and any one else with connections to or between currently elected officials are removed, we won't get far. The lobbyists can be kept at bay for a short while, since they would have little to no connections with the new members, and we could have real reform. However this is only a pipe dream at this time. Maybe someone(s) influential outside of elected office can mount this effort and get people to support it. I am thinking Gingrich (note, from my view a great choice, but not too many others will agree with me) and a prominent reform democrat maybe Zell Miller. Opinions on this? Be kind. |
I am all for Congressional term limits. I think your plan is too much. Having a new house every single cycle would slow things down. Think 8 years (4 terms) for Congress 12 years (2 terms) for Senate. You the only problem is that there are some senators that deserve to be around forever, Like Sen. McCain. So I would take part of your plan and say that once you have sat out for a full cycle you can run again.
