Forums - Gaming - Gears of What? Unreal Tournament 3- Best Looking Console Game Ever?

it's a PC game, ofcourse it looks great on the Ps3, and it will look even better on the PC :)

Am I the only one who thinks that this cannot even come close to Uncharted Drake's Fortune

That's interesting because Jack said it was exclusive, but it seemed to sound like timed exclusive. However, the PS3 version so far looks like it'll be the superior version between it and the 360 if it indeed is a multi-platform version (I'm not going to count PC in that for obvious reasons). One, the deal to optimize the engine to run better on the PS3 (awesome for all unreal engine games in the future) and that UT3 will have the ability for custom mods, which I'm assuming you could make something on the PC and then be able to release it to the UT3 crowd on PS3. To the best of my knowledge, Microsoft still wont allow that kind of thing on the 360 and Xbox Live.

Check this link out, it shows pictures of OpenGL 2.1 vs DX10 graphics.

And if I remember my GPU's correctly, OpenGL is what Nvidia based GPU's use (the PS3 uses the RSX from Nvidia). So the question could be will the RSX support that.

Well OpenGL will always have the benifits here, you have to remember that Direct3D is mainly designed for real time rendering (games) whereas OpenGL is designed for every 3d application. Also remember that the way OpenGL is designed means that it can use every feature a video card supports through extensions, and also everything it doesn't can be done with software rendering (at a heavy performance cost), while DirectX works by simply standardising video cards.

So OpenGL will look better, but in most cases won't perform better. Of course, DirectX had millions thrown into it in order to lock Windows in as the defacto PC gaming platform standard and further solidify Microsoft's handhold on the PC OS world.

EDIT: Of course, images will only look as good as the amount of time artists spend making them. But some of those faces look incredibly life-life.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

It will look better on a PC with a $600 video card $200 high speed - ram $400 CPU with 2 or 4 cores. NO computer worth 500 or 600 bux will look better than it does on the ps3 So Plz stop making that as an argument. And a good % of the PC gaming market is gunna crack and download the game rather than buy it at a retail.

Of course, but the whole idea was supporting that the Unreal Engine is (from what I've heard) OpenGL based and the PS3 uses the RSX and is working with Epic to enhance the Engine on the PS3.

Mainly, I find it an interesting counter-point against DX10 on the 360 talk. I really wonder what the next couple of years will bring in terms of games and their graphics.

I don't really see the sameness you're talking about. Compare Too Human to Bioshock for example, they don't even look like they're using the same engine yet both are using UE3. Or compare Bioshock to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, they don't have a repeated look either. Actually compare Gears of War to those games (especially Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas) and tell us they look or even feel the same, they don't at all. Or Stranglehold, another that you wouldn't even know used the same engine based on the videos for it.

If you're not trolling (which you say you aren't) then I can only assume you really haven't actually looked at many different games that use UE3, hopefully this helps to dispel any misconceptions about UE that you have.

Too Human is not using UE3. There was a rumor they were going to start over on the game and use it but it wasn't true. I do think that UT3 looks like Gears with more vibrant colors. One of the guys looks like Cole Train with red stripes on his face.

As for you leo-j if Killzone 2 looks a little bit better than COD4 that's not a good thing. Killzone 2 has been in development forever. COD4 has been in development since COD2 was out and to top it off it's a multi-platform game.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

i think that all the shots we've seen from UT3 are from the PC version...it's difficult to judge from these shots alone (actually streched) but i think that there's too much AA for any console.

2008 year end sales (made in January 2008):

44.2 M 27.1 M 20.8 M

This game is in development for the ps3 first.
