Forums - Sony Discussion - FF7 remake sales

@Feniris Do you know how much development costs are for the hd consoles? Square already has like 5 big games in development for the hd consoles. FFXIII, Versus, Last Renement, Star Ocean 4,an Infinite undiscovered. Now do you believe they have enough money for anything else on the hd consoles? Also lets talk about their games on the wii, and handhelds. Now even if they had the money, they would have to also finish alot of their other projects to free up some teams. Its not that they won't make money, its just they have money in so many other projects they don't have much left for the remake.

Did these conversations not happen last gen when lots of people wanted one for the PS2 and it never happened. I don't really think we will see one this gen either.

I think it depends. Once the FF7 spinoffs start losing a lot in sales they'll release a remake to try and reinvigorize the FF7 brand.

I think that's why they're afraid to re-release it. They think it might actually hurt the brand more then help it.

I think it might be because of the production costs. To remake the entire game for PS3, i'm pretty sure it would cost Square quite a bit of money. They wouldn't want to put a ton of money into a simple remake. They had the oppertunity to remake it on the PS2, when the budget would have been lower and the sales probably higher, and they still didn't do it. I really don't see them doing it now.And has for hurting the brand, i really don't think Square would care that much.

So it's too expensive for PS3. That doesn't mean they couldn't put it on another system. If it really would sell 5 Million+ easy like some people seem to think... Why not go ahead and put it on the Wii...

Or the 360. How much of the game do you think Microsoft would be willing to fund for an exclusivity contract?

Seems like they have ulterior reasons other then just cost.

It will sell 3 times lower than the original so 3-4 millions, is a remake not a original game.

If they remade it.... Hmmm.... It might be the first time a remake either kept up with sells or surpassed the original. I believe it'd be a system seller. There'd be alot of advertisement and word of mouth etc. I think it'd be a far bigger deal then most people think.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

i think the effect and hype of ps3 having it would be so much larger than the actual remake.

ps3's it would sell: 2 million+ (ripple effect, mostly indirect sales)
game sales: 3-4 million as optmistic

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

Around the Network

i say around 4 million

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Considering the FF7 fanboys are some of the most rabid ones in the entire industry, it would probably sell a lot.

The fact that FF7 is its own franchise is a boil on the butt of gaming.

I know, if you say anything bad about FFVII they will go crazy. Also if you say another ff was better they would just say " you must be a ninty fanboy".

So, Square would spend more money to remake a game and have lower sales?

Well, they have done so with near every single remake the have released!
