Well I followed the links back to the parents post. She says that her daughter is 4'9" and weighs 92 lbs.

I'm not too sure if my assumption is correct, but for an active 10 year old girl, that weight sounds very high. Can anybody else confirm this, or am I way off base here.

Those are stats of most of my 20 year old friends all of which are very fit and skinny. But then again they are 20 and this girl is 10 ....

It also says that she swims and dances.  Chances are she has a lot of muscle tone, as swimmers and dancers are *definitely* among the most fit people I know, and BMI means nothing for either of those activities... swimmers will have huge pecs/lats, and this will throw off BMI.  Although judging by Happy's post, maybe her weight was just misread or something.  I dunno.

I'm not taking up the defensive stance on this one just because we really don't know much about this "Incident"

We did predict that some people might take offense to being told that they're overweight. But hey, if you're overweight, that's your fault. don't get mad at Nintendo for pointing it out.

Actually that's only partially true. Overweight is caused by genetic issues on surprisingly large extent (of course the food culture has a lot to do with it, but as in terms of not capable of eating normally without gaining weight), especially epigenetic changes from your grandparents have a lot to do with it, since in case of overweight, it takes one generation to take effect. Which by the way is interesting, that will todays weight lossing boom (by diet) cause a huge problem with overweight for the future generations.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Tone != bulk, and its very easy to have enough tone to be 'overweight'.

My BMI is at this moment 20.9.  On the low side of overweight.  Back when I swam (like 3 months ago, before the season ended), it was 25.1 at its maximum.  Just barely into the overweight, but it was there.  In middle school (the earliest I remember my weight and height), it was at 24.2.  I've had about the same body fat for all of these measurements (actually, I have more right now than I ever have had in my life, but I also have the lowest BMI I've ever had).

It's entirely plausable that an active 10 year old has an 'overweight' BMI.  It doesn't take that much bulk, just lots of tone.  Which, incidentally, is what at least swimming excels at building.  Crazy, huh?

I wonder what BMI Reggie has...

Does the manual say what BMI Wii Fit considers overweight? Seems strange if 19.9 is considered overweight. Maybe she was 92 kgs and 4'9"...:)

I couldn't care less about people that take offence. Have a cry.

In fact, look at this study done by USA Swimming:
http://www.usaswimming.org/USASWeb/ViewMiscArticle.aspx?TabId=395&Alias=rainbow&Lang=en&mid=614&ItemId=530

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0887/is_3_19/ai_61182052

"Nine girls (10.8%) and one boy (1.7%) were classified as overweight but not overfat."

As it turns out, young swimmers are misclassified using BMI quite often, in a scientific study.

typical american family cases, parents creating bunch of spoilt brats.
if my parents buy me an expensive toy like wiifit, and instead of having fun with it i keep complaining and whining and crying abt it, i will get a hell of a beating before they sell my wiifit away.

russel peter says:" white parents, u need to beat ur child so tat they can socialise with other chilldren!"

92 pounds (42 kilos) is way too much for a ten year old girl, the average range (here at least) would be in the 65-80 pound segment.
I was roughly that weight when I was ten years old, and I was above average height, stocky built and well, I'm a male.
I was thin back then, and probably around 5'1".
