Before That Game comes out next month and changes the conversation, which do you think are the best looking games released to date on the current generation of consoles, and what makes them the best?

Pure technical level? Onimusha Way of the Sword has the best facial animations in any game I have ever seen.  Overall visuals probably Gears of War E-Day. Game looks insane even on console and runs very well. Nice glass physics and physics in general. Great fluid physics and fantastic facial animations. Only slightly edged out by Onimusha. Great lighting effects and running at 60FPS. Wolverine is dull to look at aesthetically but again on a technical level it's the most impressive PS5 game I have seen. Good looking hair. Good RT. Runs nicely. Solid face animation. Good lighting in general.

Yeah good calls; E-Day looks phenomenal, as has always been the case for Gears games, they have pushed the limits of Xbox hardware since the 360.

I played Onimusha on Switch 2, but yeah even there it's a good looking game.

Tech-wise? Senua or Alan Wake 2 probably.

Art + Tech? Horizon Forbidden West, for my taste.

Just Art? Hm...maybe Midnight Walk, at least when it comes to 3D

Horizon Forbidden West & Death Stranding 2(same engine) are still the best looking open world games I’ve ever seen. How good they look as huge open world games is kind of insane. Forbidden west is also aesthetically beautiful, some of the random areas of the world look amazing.

I can't speak for consoles, but the recent batch of modern games I've played on my PC have all looked fantastic.
Even if one game was less graphically impressive or demanding, I could always bump the FPS higher to compensate, making the overall experience feel relatively equal.

Depends what system.

Switch: Alien Isolation.
Switch 2: Metroid Prime Beyond
Xbox/PS5: I’d have to say Pragmata coz that on rails ending sequence is spectacular.

I don't like the game (loved the first) but Horizon Forbidden West is the best looking game I've seen. I have heard and read that the DLC is even better.

Of games I like, probably Elden Ring. It has a distinct artstyle that I love. So many have disappointed for the goal of realism.

Edit: Death Stranding 2 is the best in both realism and artstyle, I had forgotten. Only thing I hate is the hud is too much but nothing comes close to this game.

Although... whoah, GTA6.... nah. GTA will be a disappointment somehow.
