  • The Talos Principle II
  • Probably Stellar Blade (haven't completed it)

Metaphor and Ghost of X are the few games I'm missing that I expect will also be absolute bangers.

Surprised by the lack of Forgotten Lands. I though you really liked that one? (Or am I mistaking you for someone else?)

Nah I do, was close to putting it in the 8.5 category, it's somewhere around 8-8.5, on a good day probably 8.5

I've made a couple of modifications to my list after seeing I missed a couple of games, one due to accidentally filtering my Steam library to only installed games and the other because I didn't check my Epic library. Here's the updated list (I edited the original post and listed the edits after the list):

My list probably looks something like this:

  1. Cities: Skylines II: It's deeply flawed, but still, the improvements over the first game have 100% killed the first game for me, and it's one of my most played games ever.
  2. Astro Bot: Surprisingly good.
  3. Ghost of Tsushima: I was definitely interested in the game even beforehand, but it was still a positive surprise.
  4. Ghost of Yotei: At this point, there was no surprise anymore, but it was still a thoroughly enjoyable game. It's probably a better game than Ghost of Tsushima, but you can make a first impression only once.
  5. Alan Wake II: Some of the changes they made compared to the first game are for the better, some for the worse, but it's equally memorable. Lived up to the expectations.
  6. Farthest Frontier: It's just a survival city builder at its finest. There's nothing special about this one, it's just really well made.
  7. Crusader Kings III: If you know what Crusader Kings is about, this one shouldn't need an explanation. I only wish I had more time for this game.
  8. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: This might be the best Ratchet & Clank game yet. It's still not perfect, but the overall quality is just really high compared to the other games in the series, which often had clear weak points.
  9. Cyberpunk 2077: Not what it was supposed to be, but I did thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game until I had to shift my focus elsewhere. I'm hoping to return to the game to finish it at some point.
  10. Half-Life: Alyx: The only reason this doesn't rank higher is probably that I've spent so little time with it. I bought Cyberpunk 2077 soon after this, and got sidetracked from this one. Since then, it's been surprisingly difficult to find a good moment to return to this game.

Only the first five are probably really worthy of being on such a list of mine at the moment, but I guess we've been doing some top 10s in this thread so far, so why not.

EDIT: Added Alan Wake II and Ratchet & Clank: Rift apart, dropped Black Mesa and Assassin's Creed: Shadows. I kept Half-Life: Alyx, because so far it's been much more memorable than either of the two dropped games.

Overall, I'm much happier with this list than the original. Black Mesa and Assassin's Creed: Shadows in particular felt like fillers, as good as they were, and now the rest feel more deserving of the attention.

Honourable mentions from me go to Ori and the Will of the Wisps, RE Requiem, Onimusha Way of the Sword, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3; they're not quite the greatest of the decade but still close contenders.

I have high hopes for RE4 Remake, Xenoblade Genesis, and Metroid Ravenous too.

Ghost of Tsushima (game of the decade so far)
RE 4 Remake
FF VII Remake
God of War Ragnarok
Silent Hill 2 Remake
RE Requiem
Pragmata
Metroid Dread
Zelda TOTK
Alan Wake 2

Few I'll remember in 10 years (well, for good reasons):

Half Life Alyx
Elden Ring
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Animal Well
Tunic
The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos
Slay the Princess

I know I'm forgetting quite a few and there's plenty I need to play in backlog, so this is just off the top of my head.

2020s have had some bangers. I'll pick the ones that made my Top 50. And I'll include remakes.

Paper Mario: TTYD
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Persona 3 Reload
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Persona 5 Strikers
Astro Bot
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
FF7 Remake
Marvel's Midnight Suns
FF7 Rebirth
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Ghost of Tsushima
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
The Last of Us Part I
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Unplayed 2020s games that could break into my Top 50 (or close to it): Ghost of Yotei, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave
Upcoming 2020s games that could break into my Top 50 (or close to it): The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Persona 4 Reload, FF7 Revelation

Still need to play some of the big ones. Give BG3 a real shot, Alan Wake 2, Control (idk if that is 2020+), Alyx, Armored Core 6

What I think when I look back over the last six or so years is wow, AAA gaming is really bad.
