Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's best UI/OS (and why)

Which was the best?

Gamecube 0 0%

Wii 5 23.81%

DS 1 4.76%

3DS 3 14.29%

Wii U 4 19.05%

Switch 1/2 8 38.10%

3DS or Wii for me, but I'm fine with anything as long as I can make actual folders and have a larger number of icons on screen at once. I don't know why they can't give us that with the Switch 2, sometimes I totally forget that I own certain digital games because I simply never see them in the menu.

I like the Wii and 3DS style of having everything in a table-view with rows and columns.

GameCube is fine for the era. Most consoles didn't have much in the way of a UI/OS until the 7th generation (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii).

I'm not a fan of  the Wii/DS/etc look. So I will go with Switch by default. It is a simple enough design. I just wish you could make the game icons a bit smaller, so you could see more without the need to scroll over.

Technically you can… but you need to scroll all the way to the right of the Home Screen.

Wii-U. When you logged on, it felt like the console and all of Nintendo was welcoming you with open arms.

I hate that the Wii required motion controls to operate the UI. Just let me use buttons. Sometimes I just wanted to play GameCube games but had to go through the hassle of making sure my motion sensor was properly set up and the Wiimote had batteries.

If you had the Wii Classic Controller you could navigate the menu without motion controls by using the analog stick.

Yep.  I thought this was common knowledge by now, but to be fair, the Virtual Console was what I played the most on the Wii, especially later in its life, so I often had my Classic Controller hooked up whenever I used it.

3DS. You could change themes and it was much faster than Wii U's OS.
And as a built-in app, 3DS has a far superior Activity Log to Wii U.
Switch and Switch 2 are the best in terms of speed and just playing a game. GameCube was slick too but obviously very barebones due to tech limitations.
Nintendo has not made a bad one yet. Wii U was often slow but still had cool features.

Yeah I like the visuals and vibes of Gamecube's UI, but you can't really do much with it.

Wii I liked for how elegant and clean it was, Wii U was a bit too slow for me.

Switch 1/2, while fairly minimalist, is very snappy, quick, and functional, so it gets my vote.
