Forums - Gaming - What would make you quit modern gaming?

Recently there has been a lot of bad news in the video game sector with things only getting worse. Some more major than others. So my question for you guys is how far would these greedy companies have to go to get you to quit modern gaming entirely? Or maybe that point has already been reached, let me know.

Making everything streaming, which I guess is the end goal.

Yeah, if everything became a cloud-based streaming subscription with no local hardware. Fuck that shit.

Also, if companies made a subscription mandatory to use their store or console at all.

There's already some winning answers here. Nothing to add comes to my mind, although I'm sure others will also add some things I agree about.

The end of physical games. And yes, I am already preparing to quit gaming in the not so distant future. Probably once the Switch 2 dies because I don't expect the Switch 3 to get physical games anymore.

Pretty much this. It's not like playing digital games is some kind of unbearable pain, but losing everything that comes with physical gaming takes away a huge part of what I love about this hobby. Playing is not the only thing that matters to me.

The end of physical games ends my interest in consoles basicly. Upgrading my pc is also not an option given the prices, so in that scenario I would be stuck with old games and maybe some indie titles.

I'll never quit it completely. But recently I've been playing emulators almost exclusively. Also found an old crt and now have a PS1, PS2 and Xbox hooked up to that, so will probably pick up a few games.

I've never been someone who buys games at launch though. I've been playing games that are at least a couple of years old most of my life lol.

If cloud streaming ever became the standard for all games, then yeah I’d definitely consider dropping out in favor of retro, Input latency and such would just be too much of s headache.

If the price ever becomes unbearably large (e.g. $1,000USD per game) with no available workarounds for cheaper prices (e.g. digital only making it impossible to rent a copy or go to the resale market), then I would certainly be among those who get priced out.

I’m sure there’s also a few other things, they just aren’t jumping to mind right now.

Spoiler!
Nah not quite. I don't know if I'll quit entirely ever but I'm already only playing very select titles, mostly just ones I've been looking forward to for a long time in my favorite series or the like.
