Forums - Gaming - What would make you quit modern gaming?

Pricing is the biggest factor for me. $500 or $600 on a console is pushing it already for me. $800+ for a console is a big no for me. Oh and $80+ games is also a no. I've never spent more than $60 on a game. I just wait for sales as my backlog is big enough.

Sure I spent a decent amount upgrading my PC a few years ago but I don't have to worry about games not being able to run on it for a long time . And not releasing on them like with console generations. All I will have to do in many years is lower the settings from ultra, to high, to medium, to low, and games will run fine enough.

Majority of 3rd parties and all Xbox games are on PC day one now. That is more than enough for me to play.

I'll never quit it completely. But recently I've been playing emulators almost exclusively. Also found an old crt and now have a PS1, PS2 and Xbox hooked up to that, so will probably pick up a few games.

I've never been someone who buys games at launch though. I've been playing games that are at least a couple of years old most of my life lol.

What model CRT is it? Also what model PS2? Did you get the OG Xbox recapped? The clock capacitor leaks in them and kills the PCB.

No more physical games across all plattforms and practically no DRM free digital alternatives.
Not going to buy the next XBox already, no Sony wants me to not buy PlayStation either. And I have to seriously consider whether buying Switch 2 will even be worth it or not.
Well... I'll wait for S2 until there's a model with much better battery life anyways.

But I'm not turning on gaming, just everthing after the current gen. There are still thousands of great games to play on older systems, and I even seriously consider starting my own business which is meant to supply people with alternative systems so that if their gamecube, xbox 360 or playstation 1 bites the dust for good, they can still play their physical games on an alternative hardware. I think there's a huge untapped market, because current emulation systems simply arent up to the task.

I had a 1.6 Xbox but just gave that to my brother as his PSU died. So I now have his old 1.2 Xbox which I'll be fixing this week and I removed the clock capacitor from it a while ago though it had already started leaking before we had it lol.

I have both an scph35003 and an scph75003 PS2. Need to do a fan upgrade on the fat as the stock fan in that model is especially loud, especially with a HDD installed.

The CRT is just what I had as a kid. Probably a cheap budget set from the early to mid 2000's. Using RGB Scart cables for everything, it only has coaxial and scart. Couldn't find a manual for it online. It's a Beko NR142746TS couldn't find a manual or anything online.

Also found this model from the 80s in the attic. Only has coaxial input unfortunately but still pretty cool lol.

If by quitting modern gaming you mean not owning hardware that can play current AAA games then I already do that. Mostly because I’m swamped with real life stuff I need to deal with, but I’m also quite satisfied playing indies and previous gen games that I haven’t gotten around to.

If PC Gaming becomes too expensive in next Gen maby I will have to wait 1-2 years for price drop but I don't see how I can quit permanently gaming.

The main problem right now is the increased price not the ending of physical. Everyone here is hardcore we won't stop anything.

Dumping physica. Too high of priced consoles. AI reliance. Oh wait that's all happened. Yeah already phasing myself out of modern gaming. I'm riding out my current hardware. I bought a bunch of PS2 stuff this year. Far far less modern stuff.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Streaming-only, I don't know if I will ever have good enough internet for that.
I'm very likely quitting new non-Nintendo hardware because of the death of physical games.

I've already been 'quitting' gaming for years. Digital games don't engage me as much and since I stopped visiting the game store weekly or at least every other week my modern gaming declined.

I used to buy physical, trade in game, buy second hand games dirt cheap, replace faulty controllers with refurbished ones, stay up to date of upcoming release dates. The last couple years I hardly game in summer anymore, and then only evergreen games, Synthriders and Puzzling Places. In Winter I revisit GT7 and other VR games. Yet the last time I bought an AAA game on release was BG3 and it was a disappointment and I couldn't even trade it in. I'm still interested in exploring the map in GTA6, probably the last modern AAA game I'll buy.

Maybe the next Zelda can still entice me to get a Switch 2, I don't know. OoT remake isn't getting me excited. Maybe the next 3D Mario can make me bite. However they better come out before the hardware becomes too expensive! I wish Nintendo would release a home console version of Switch 2 with BC (thus incl disc drive)
