Forums - Gaming - Genres You've Recently Warmed Up To

What game genres or subgenres did you have little interest in but have warmed up to in recent years?

For the longest time I had little interest in movement shooters or playing mainstream games as if they were movement shooters (all the bunny hopping in games like COD and CS annoyed the hell out of me) but recently I've really come around to them. A lot of it was me craving more first person platformers and this being adjacent to them but I've recently been playing games like Titanfall 2, Empulse, and Echo Point Nova and really enjoying them. Makes me rethink how I would play something like COD today.

Around the Network

Probably space-sandbox games. But that might be because of the sandbox elements, and I've been into sandbox games ever since SimCity (at least).

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

No major changes for me recently. If anything, I've been liking platforms less in the past few years than I did before. As an adult, I've also liked Ratchet & Clank way more than I did as a kid/teenager, but it's not exactly recently anymore than I've grown to like it, and I don't think it's about the genres either.

Not a fan of RTS games in general but in recent years did really enjoy both Kunitsu-gami Path of the Goddess and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for their more accessible takes on this style of gameplay.

Rougelikes and Rougelites. I've liked one or two every now and then but I have really started to enjoy them now, the small run based gameplay suits me well but I do enjoy when they have stronger permanent progression and you still have a good chance at a run if you leave the game sitting for a few weeks and when they don't debuff you at every turn or at least stack debuffs like in Cult of the Lamb or returnal.
