Unpopular opinion: GKCs are actually fine. They are a better alternative to pure digital: A digital format in a physical container that is transferable and resellable. It solves the two most obviously bad things about digital, while only keeping one bad thing from physical (the need to have a game card in your console). We can still redownload purchased Wii games from the stubbed Wii shop, so I am confident it will be a very long time before these GKCs are invalidated by a closed server. Until then, emulation will have fully replaced any need to attempt to use a physical Switch 2 console.

With the additional bonus that you get much more playtime out of the game to play it through. Each time you switch the platform, you can start that game from scratch... unless it has annoying cross saves.

I think you’ve found the solution, poolman. Unfortunately Activision beat you to it when they included a free digital copy of Skylanders Trap Team with every purchase of the physical game. All the way back in October 2014.

Why in God's name would I double dip like that? I'm buying physical copies and that's that. I never once felt like having to get up and swap discs or cartridges was some arduous task. I've been doing it for 40 years, and if anyone has room to complain about it it's me because I have muscular dystrophy. I still buy physical media because I like having actual tangible property I can hold in my hands and say "This is mine."

Agreed. I have a two parent, two kids household, with three Switches and two Switch 2s. Nintendo's family sharing is extremely limited for no reason, and having to have to renew the sharing every two weeks and requiring the switches be right next to each other is just silly. A game key card lets me just take a game and put it into the other system with no hassle. Given the choice, I will buy a game key card over a digital game 100% of the time.
