It's clearly not focusing, as there are bigger games releasing. But yeah, weird that they give Star Fox another go. Zelda at least will be enjoyed by people, even if the graphics is kinda weirding me out. But there are definitely bigger releases.

ocarina of time is their biggest release of the year. yes, im going to use that word because that is how nintendo is going to treat it. i dont care how much you like pokopia or how much it sells, ocarina of time is their biggest release. they saved it for the end of the direct, they understand there is going to be more hype surrounding this game than anything else theyve published this year, and no matter how much you disagree that hype is fake, that is exactly what theyre doing. they understand the hype and they are playing into it. thats why they saved it for the end, thats why they made it a teaser trailer, thats why they didnt give a definitive release date. because there is hype and they plan on fanning those flames because they understand the things that i am talking about. this is their biggest release of the year and the one they are counting on to generate interest in their system. argue with that all day long, i dont care.

Dude, from the get go I said I give you Zelda, this is big for many. So no, I am not disagreeing on Zelda, I never did. Even though I am personally weirded out by the shot they showed. I probably will still end up buying it, because it is Zelda.

well im buying it because im a nintendrone and i buy anything they put out no matter what. i buy it, put it in my switch 2 bin, and then put the bin back in the closet. that is how im enjoying my nintendo purchases these days. its not the most fun ive had with nintendo software, but it still delivers that dopamine hit so its still worth it at the end of the day.

We seem to have found common ground at long last... well, kinda. I'm not purchasing Switch Sports Resort nor did I purchase (or have plans to purchase) Tomodachi Life, but I will purchase any single player experience Nintendo decides to pump out.

Hell yeah. Even though we find ourselves on opposite sides of every topic we put our money toward the common goal of increasing nintendos sales numbers. I really do go all the way. 70% of my switch games are in shrink wrap still. Lol.

Don't get me wrong of course, I'd love a new 3D Mario as much as the next guy and I'm not convinced that prioritizing Donkey Kong over it was the right move commercially speaking.

Nintendo's primary objective this year so far has clearly been to capture the more "casual" gamer with the likes of Pokopia, Tomodachi, and Yoshi, plus Switch Sports Resort in the back half, as well as courting older/lapsed gamers by bringing back Starfox and Ocarina.

So if you're more an enthusiast gamer who's not nostalgic for the N64 era, I get it if this approach isn't lighting your world on fire.

It's more that games such as DK Bananza, Pokemon Pokopia, Splatoon Raiders, and such seem to be consistently dismissed simply because they're not 3D Mario or Smash, which historically released early on for past systems.

Online discourse in general; social media, gaf, YT, fami, etc.

The narrative that there are "no big games" also tends to imply "big games" as the likes of 3D Mario, new mainline Zelda, and Smash, with the likes of Pokopia or Switch Sports or DK dismissed.

Call me crazy, but I think Nintendo holding off their safe heavy hitters is by a wide margin the most commercially successful formula. Switch 2 has proven to have strong hardware figures regardless of whether they release a 3D Mario or Smash Bros. Why waste safe-and-strong cards when good times come regardless as opposed to save them for when they *really* need them? E.g. following price hikes, in order to maintain long-term momentum (e.g. TotK & Mario Wonder being saved for 2023 certainly contributed to helping Switch 1 maintain 10M+ legs all the way through its eight year).

If a 3D Mario arrives in 2027 then potentially there's no real damage done, it all depends on just how far off their biggest guns really are. If they shot their shot with DK and a 3D Mario is still years away, then maybe it wasn't the optimal move. We'll have to wait and see.

We know Pokemon Wind/Waves is coming next year, if they can roll out the gigatons like 3D Mario, a new Smash Bros and a new Animal Crossing over 2027-2029 then that should keep momentum strong.

Shockingly many people buy Nintendo machines because of the biggest franchises. And we've really only ha mainline entry in one of the major system selling franchises. This release cadence was certainly a choice.
