Quite the opposite. It actually opened nearly 50% higher than the Switch 2 port of FF7 Remake earlier this year.

Same, especially with it coming so soon after VII R you'd imagine a good 50% of people didn't actually get to the end yet in order to be playing Rebirth.
Remakes physical total was last recorded to be 35.7k so probably around 40-45k now. Rebirth opened to around 70% of Remakes total Switch 2 physical sales. Definitely better than expected. Will probably be front loaded but curious to see if it surprises us
My suspicion and I guess it makes sense is that a high number of people on Switch owners already played VII R on PS4 but not nearly as many played Rebirth. So Rebirth may have been more highly anticipated.
I think it's probably no accident that SE revealed Revelations 2 days after Rebirth came out, I'm sure that helped. Very smart timing on their side.
Switch 2 significantly drops again this time below 25k which isn't ideal but this month should be a relatively low period for it so it's not too bad and Switch 1 goes up a bit but it is looking like sub 10k will be the norm now while PS5 is continuing its recent consistency. Also it seems FH6 might've actually gave a tiny boost to the Xbox Series which is neat and man Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has some nutty legs.
Also another interesting figure for Rebirth is how high it's been charting on Japanese PSN recently.
In May it was No.4 ahead of Resident Evil Requiem for example:
https://blog.ja.playstation.com/2026/06/09/20260609-monthly-ps-store-ranking-s/
Before April it hadn't been seen in the top20 for the 5 prior that I checked
Another interesting PSN tibit is that Monster Hunter Rise has been outselling the more recent Monster Wilds consistently for about year lol
Remake and Rebirth launch sales differ by 7k. Not that notable of a difference.
There are reports of Switch and Switch 2 shortages right now, so things will probably be better in the near future. They aparently focused all the logistics to put as much Switch 2 consoles for the 2 weeks before the price hikes and it seems to have exceeded their expectations.
