Ocarina of Time is my favorite game of all time (original, i known) but i have to ask, who is this really for?

The original game is AMAZING for it's time, and that time was 1998. There are games on it's on series that surpasses it in scale. Like, what's the plan here? Hyrule field for instance is sooo tiny and uninteresting, no amount of realistic trees and bushes wiil be enough to hide that fact. BUT, if they changed it too much, it wouldn't be Ocarina of Time anymore, would it be? Hyrule field is more like a hub world akin to princess peach castle than a sprolling open world, and that was totaly fine for it's time, it worked. The tecnology wasn't there yet.

My point is, i think a sequel would be a lot better. I consider Twilight Princess to be pretty much a "Ocarina of Time 2". So a knew entry akin to this two games would make a lot more sense.

I'm not saying that the game is going to sell porly or anything like that, just to be clear. I'm just talking strictly as a fan of the original.

Remakes are so commonplace now for three reasons.

The first is that consumers have shown they will buy the same game twice (and three times, and four times, and five and six and--), and publishers go wherever the money is. The second is that remakes are significantly cheaper to make, so the overhead, or lack thereof, is very attractive. The third is due to the abhorrent  development times of modern gaming. If it's going to take ten years to make a freakin' sequel, what are you going to do to keep customers locked into your brand? You need something. Remakes fill the void and do so on the cheap.

I don't buy remakes, myself. I own the originals. I play the originals. I don't want the the originals changed because I adore them, as is. I want new games on new consoles, not old ones.

But I am clearly not in the majority.

They could have made a new zelda game to release in 2027. 4 years of development time is completely reasonable

We talking about his behavior like he is a first grader or something? Lol its whatever. He can leak stuff. There is nothing any of us can do about it. And there is an incentive to do it. Its one of those situations where all you can say "it is what it is"

I think for them it's about resources. Remember, they don't just make Zelda games. They have a lot of fish to fry, consoles included.

good point, however, i think my point still stands. 4 years is adequate. the switch 2 would have its exclusive zelda game that they could sell for the entire lifespan of the console at full price, and they could have used those assets to create the ocarina of time remake. this console needed an announcement like this. it could have been mario, it could have been zelda, it could have been something else. it needed something. the fact that their big release for the year is a remake is a huge problem in my eyes.

Hey, I come from a time in gaming when we got three Mario's (NES) and three GTA's (PS2) in one single gen. You're singing to the choir. haha

It took Nintendo 6 years to make TOTK; no way a next gen mainline Zelda is coming before 2030 IMO.

We'll probably get spinoffs and stuff before that to ease the wait though.

Am I the only one who thinks Young Link was just adorable in the trailer? I wanted to immediately protect him!!

Guess ill be buying a switch 2 lol. I only played the last two games and loved both

I'm guessing you're aware that OoT is quite different Zelda formula (stripped down ALttP), and it's not guaranteed you'll like it.

That's a dumb blanket statement. You don't know the teams working on the games nor do you know the vision and scope of either the remake or the next mainline game. Most games with a decent budget are talking 5 years or more these days anyway.
