They could have made a new zelda game to release in 2027. 4 years of development time is completely reasonable

That's a dumb blanket statement. You don't know the teams working on the games nor do you know the vision and scope of either the remake or the next mainline game. Most games with a decent budget are talking 5 years or more these days anyway.

so fucking what? the only reason games have inflated budgets is because theyre doing motion capture, facial capture, pointless cinematic cutscenes, trying to get grass physics just perfect, etc. then they have to sell 5+ million to make a profit. and then they take up 50 gigs of your hard drive space even when you bought the disc. then you need to download patches to fix everything thats wrong with it. then they discount the game 6 months after it comes out to try to convince you to be interested. does nintendo have to follow all these ridiculous rules? well they dont, and i dont think they have to follow this ridiculous rule either.

It took Nintendo 6 years to make TOTK; no way a next gen mainline Zelda is coming before 2030 IMO.

We'll probably get spinoffs and stuff before that to ease the wait though.

i would be surprised if it didnt release in the 2020s

Yes. Grass physics. Nothing more time consuming than...grass physics.

Everything you said was wrong and grass physics is such a stupid comment it's not even worth addressing you seriously. You're comments are the result of someone who pigeonholed themselves with narrow tastes on top of having a narrow view of anything. It's like having the vision of Mr Magoo. You can see light and shapes but not the picture itself.  You somehow think OoT remake isn't that big a deal. That's downright wrong.  Your topic about 2026 being weak and then these Zelda comments comes across that the regurgitated toxic rage bait Nintendo YouTubers. At this point it comes across if there was ever an original thought, it would die of loneliness.

Dev cycles are only getting longer, and the Zelda team have been extremely ambitious in their last couple games, and with the jump in graphical fidelity going from Switch 1 to 2, I don't see the next one taking less time than TOTK, when they were able to reuse a lot of BOTW's assets for that one.

Best not to set one's self up for disappointment by expecting it any time soon.

Yeah, same. I'd honestly be surprised if the next Zelda comes out before 2029. Even if the world is not as huge as the last couple games, they'll surely have to spend a lot of time on tons of new assets of increased quality + whatever clever gameplay ideas they come up with.

Ocarina is there to help making the wait better and it's probably (mostly) done by an external studio. Hell, I'd say there's even a chance we'll get another 2D game before the next mainline 3D as well.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Since OoT has a light puzzle dungeon. I wonder if this game will help them get used to Switch 2's RT capability and expand on that with something in the next mainline dungeon. Either as a mechanic/ability or another idea for a light puzzle dungeon.

I think it could land anywhere between fall 2028 and 2030. Both BOTW and TOTK took 6 years, and given TOTK is a direct sequel set in BOTW world I think that says a lot about how complex it was to implement those new gameplay systems. If the next Zelda is a bit less revolutionary and either refines what TOTK done ( like suggested by recent 3 way fusion patent) or relies on new, more simple USP I think we could see shorter dev cycle (as early as fall 2028).

Personally hoping it's a slightly more simple/intuitive gameplay hook (less menu/item navigation) and more emphasis on a detailed/dense world versus a huge one.
