Forums - Nintendo - Starfox, a reimagining of Starfox 64, coming exclusively to Switch 2 June 25th

Mixed feelings on this one. Very hyped because we're getting a new Starfox game! I love Starfox 64, it's still my favorite rail-shooter of all time. On the other hand it's another remake. And no Krystal, even though she's the coolest character in the Starfox universe.

Also, will the game get a physical release? I only see an eShop listing.

I'm interested to know who is developing it; whether it is being handled in-house by EPD, or whether it's been handed to an external partner like how Namco developed Starfox Assault and Platinum developed Starfox Zero.

There's a physical release, it's already up for preorder here at stores like JB Hifi and EB Games.

See some gamers complain about it being a remake of the N64 game for the 4th time or whatever. Yeah, well not many of you seem to like anything that came after. Never seen so much negativity for a franchise. Its like Nintendo could never do anything right after the N64 one. People were always "This isnt like the N64 game at all". Well this is exactly like the N64 version. So sure, dont buy it and let the franchise rest for another 10-20 years.

I like the scruffy looking characters and the graphics overall are beautiful. Cant wait!

Dont forget most people who own a NS1/2 have never played an N64 or StarFox 64. N64 was before most of us even exsisted

This got to be the prettiest game Nintendo ever made. I'm kinda impressed.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I'm a bit surprised that Nintendo didn't go down the route of doing a Star Fox Zero remaster with a more conventional control scheme, which is something that people have been asking for since the Switch 1's earliest days. Sure, that would probably have required a major rejigging of the level design to remove the bits that were designed with using the Wii U's gamepad screen, but I can't imagine it would have been much more expensive than doing a whole new Star Fox 64 remake from scratch.

Because the way that game was made and rendered. (it rendered the game twice) and reverse engineering  That amount of work would be insane and would just be a different game at some point. It's easier and better to just make an all new game. Starting from scratch also removes any baggage Zero has. A *new game that plays it safe renews interest in the IP to avoid another Zero. This way they can experiment ore when the actual next bigger entry comes along.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Holy maccaroni. That came out of nowhere xD

It's a shame we are getting Star Fox 64 AGAIN. On the positive side:

- It looks and sounds absolutely stunning
- Online and local multiplayer with both friends and strangers + three different game modes is VERY NICE
- Local co-op with one person shooting and the other piloting is AWESOME. This was the best part about Star Fox Zero and I'm so happy they are bringing it back.
- In-game objectives that change with difficulty
- Brand new cutscenes and expanding that flesh-out the story and characters. If they do this correctly, it could make the game even better.

It would have been nice to throw us a (bigger) bone and sell this at 39,99 like Metroid Prime Remastered. 49,99 feels a bit too expensive for what it's essentially Star Fox 64 for the fourth time. But it's not as crazy as, say, Mario Tennis for 69,99.

All in all, I'm very happy with the announcement. I hope this sells very good and we get an actual brand new Star Fox game.

I like that its not full price, but at the same time it clearly has a decent budget put into it and doesn't look at all cheap or lazy.

I'm just happy to see them finally doing something with the IP after 11 years on the backburner. Hopefully this sells well enough to justify continuing the series.
