Forums - Nintendo - Starfox, a reimagining of Starfox 64, coming exclusively to Switch 2 June 25th

Looks good to me! I loved Starfox 64 and I never played any remake of it. To be honest, before reading this thread I didn't even know they existed. Last time I played that game was in the Switch Online Service.

I feel like a lot of people thrown by the realistic characters never owned the original SNES/64 games back in the day and are instead used to how Fox/Falco look in Smash Bros where they're more cartoony.

Even in the SNES game, the box/cartridge art and manual used "realistic" live action puppets to portray the characters, while Starfox 64 was as close to "realistic" as you could manage within the 64's limits.

This approach is very much a return to the series roots.

I think 90% of the game you can't even see the characters, so who gives a ****?

Not directed at you, just my feelings on how much the designs are not that important.

Yeah pretty much this, during gameplay the characters only pop up as small dialog boxes that can easily be ignored, while the cutscenes can presumably be skipped. It's a very minor thing in the grand scheme of things.

I thought new players would be driven away by the characters looking hyper realistic.

It's TWO WORDS. *hits Leynos with a clawhammer*

If you look carefully at the Arwing during cutscenes:

(The Super FX chip powered the original SNES title and "NPPG" stands for Nintendo Power Player's Guide)

Warms my 90s heart. 😭

"OK, so back in 1993, Nintendo does Star Fox. Then they were going to make a sequel, but scrapped it in favor of a reboot. 14 years pass and we get a few sequels, plus a Virtual Console re-release, so they release a remake of the re-imagining. Said reimagining was reimagined a few years later on the Wii U. Then we waited a decade and yesterday, we heard that we were getting a second remake of the original reimagining, not to be confused with a remake of the first remake or a sequel to the reimagining of the reimagined version." - Me to My Roommate

If I remember correctly, Nate said before this direct that a Star Fox game will be released in the summer of 2026 (June, 25) and a new one in 2027, so perhaps this game is meant to reintroduce the franchise, but to a new audience, not for the old one.

Not Nate, somebody else said a new Star Fox was coming 2027. However Nate has lent credence to a French journalist who i believe corrobated the rumor of a wholly original SF releasing in 2027. Oddly enough in the SFAdventures style…

The one level we didn't see in the Direct, at least not that I saw, was Titania, which was one of my favourite levels in the 64 game. Can't wait to see what the reimagined version looks like, as even in Starfox Zero it was a looker:

Is Miyamoto trying to kill Star Fox a third time? -_-

Seeing how Solar looked (and moved) absolutely stunning already, I can totally see Titania dropping jaws.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
