Just amazing. The most boring and annoying console generation since 1st. Thanks crypto first and now AI.

Just make it $2000 so people can fix their brain rot and read some books.

Kind of sad. I was thinking the generation started off with so much promise. Demon and Ratchet, Spiderman 2 not long after. Excellent ports of Ragnarok and Forbidden West. I was loving my ps5 but man, downhill since.

Edit

Legit canceled my auto subscription for PSN.  Not sure Playstation is for me anymore and i suspect price increases for online as well.

Time for some more competition on the market. Not as powerful as a PS5 or as versatile as a Switch2. Priced at $350, but perfectly capable of running the following type of games: Fortnight, Apex Legends, FIFA, Madden, Ghenshin Impact and such. Could see a market disrupter right there.

In all seriousness with all the prices rises, what could you honestly give a consumer for $350? It would have to be a company with a tremendous amount of money; it certainly is not going to be google.

I could see $399 possibly. A Switch 2 home console or if the the PS5/PS6 hybrid also came in a home console version.

Wouldn't need the screen. Wouldn't need the battery. I'm sure there's some other minor things they could remove. Wouldn't even need a different shell casing. Just a few super cheap pieces of plastic to cover where the screen would be otherwise and the ends where the joycons would otherwise connect. Same portable shell casing, same dock, and either the joycons with the charge grip or the pro controller instead. Depends on the specs of the PS hybrid as well, but I'd guess SNY would look to keep it $499 max, so $399 should be doable for a home console version, even if it required a small subsidy like PS5 got early on.

While we have little info, right now, it kinda seems like the XB Helix ecosystem is designed in a way that's even more friendly to a Series S type model. A 2027 Helix SKU that was $399 could sell far better than Series S did with where PS6 hardware looks like it could end up.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

Talking about for the "PS5" lol

Since it supposedly became profitable circa 2024, it was probably somewhat below $400 (reminder, you have to factor in shipping + retail margins on top of that) before the RAM crunch.

If they're finding contracts at 3x the previous price for RAM modules, that alone might have added $50-$70.

It is likely that Microsoft and Nintendo will follow suit eventually.

At least the Series S is actually an accessible price. With AI upscaling next gen at its final form. Hopefully another entry level system can launch alongside the likely $700+ main console and really be a great option

People have mentioned Sony could produce a TV version of the portable PS6 as a series S type system.

Wouldn't that, in terms of power, be basically a ps5?  Perhaps with better upscaling.  I could see it, but no where near a $400 price tag others mentioned.  It would still need 16 to 24 gb of ram.  Still feels like a $600 console.

PS5 but better upscalling, raytraycing, frame generation, Universal compression, general ML capacity and all the things that will make PS6 next gen. 24GB is the rumour for the portable, so yeah, maybe $400 is too low but it should be $100 cheaper than whatever the portable system is meant to be and maybe $200 cheaper than the main system.

Agreed it would be cheaper and would be a good idea.  Even if it was similar in power to the ps5, having good upscaling alone will give it a dramatic boost.

Though I loathe frame generation, I really hope that doesn't become a thing.  High fps increases responsiveness of controls, frame generation comes with lag.  It defeats the purpose.

But overall, yeah, fair point.  I could see it being $600, with the portable being $700 and the main system at $900.  (unless prices get under control)
